Bull Burroughs and Joni Mitchell? Doesn't sound right. Erni posted a great link to a compilation of songs about and involving Burroughs below. We established he did things with Laurie Anderson, right? He was involved with a lot of punk people when he returned from London to NY in "The Bunker" days: Patti Smith and Jim Carroll - Jim Carroll especially because he was primarily a poet. I would suspect some collaborations. I think there are some Burroughs sound collaborations with Gysin in London. More obscurely, I remember this guy, John Giorno, did a lot of avant garde recordings - John Giorno Sound Systems or something - I think he did some Burroughs releases. Erni might know more.

Definitely, you have to dig more to realize Burroughs was at the center. Yes - long shadow for Warhol. I suppose he's in music too, beyond what I know. It always seems to go back to the Velvet Underground though because that was pure genius.

WSB - totally remarkable figure involved in just about everything. The Beatles officially released about 4 1/2 hours worth of music. It's remarkable that people could listen to it over-and-over again. I think the newer releases of outtakes, rehearsals - those are fascinating. There are hundreds of hours of those.

This is a revelation. I never got into the spoken word/music side of Burroughs. Obviously fertile ground. It makes sense: Last spring I wrote to you about the section in the Barry Miles WSB bio - Paul McCartney "scouted" Burroughs in the mid-60s for music ideas. The Beatles even thought there was something they could beg, borrow, and steal from Burroughs. Seems they were right.

Erni, thanks for this. NEVER knew about it. Remarkable - includes music from Eddie Vetter ) Pearl Jam, Stipes (REM), and some Jim Carroll songs I haven't heard - as well as things you'd expect. WOW.

Erni's sleeping. Thanks for locating LA, Alicia. I've always been partial to "Language is a virus." Wonderful experience for your son. Thnx for Billy/Naropa link, Erni, most Beatific scholar. You catch me on the details. Joan had a glass on her head, not an apple, according to most sources. Joan really does deserve some honor for the martyrdom. She would have been one of the original "speed freaks." (Speed kills, kids.) Over-the-counter nasal inhalers used methadrine in those days. Joan was among those addicted to the paper strips pulled out of the inhaler. Of course "On the Road" and "Howl" were fueled by the same source. "Naked Lunch" less so. Firearms aren't good to put into the equation.
