A desperate plea from Nancy Bell Scott to End ELP. Little did she know that I have been a member of the Coalition to End ELP since 2002! Practically speaking, this means I have signed approximately 454 online petitions. We've made headway but much needs to be done. On the back Nancy gives a play by play about how it all came about which is quite wonderful. Unseen is the letter from a friend visiting Czechoslovakia which folds over the explanatory text. A multi-layered work that will do much to End ELP. As we know it.

It's Shakespeare, David. No, yah, it's kind of baseball talk, but baseball is not a sport. I don't like sports. Baseball is an art, so long as the players don't say much.

Is this baseball talk? I'm not too good with sports.

the schmuck tensed up till save was blown, then hung his head with mournful moan.

Guess I should have said "hassock"...

Gee, no. It seemed like a sure thing, but the last line you provide ... ending with the word "can" ... has caused paralysis. It probably all depends on how one pronounces "ottoman." I'm from upstate NY, which sometimes causes accents to sound midwestern, so is it "mahhhhn" or "maaaaan"? Now it's 34 minutes past midnight in Maine, and there is no more baseball in this state and all of New England. Pass the kleenex.

Baseball in Maine at Midnight. Now there's an epic poem waiting to happen. "All was quiet in Orchard Beach, the bars were dark, and of reach but in one window a blue light shown, Mighty Casey still at home, feet propped up on ottoman, staring at his empty can... " could you finish this for me, Nancy?

Thank you, David. You're not Hollywood so far as I know, but I believe you despite that and because of that. As for your calling out my use of "trend" as a verb (and it does have a question mark after it), that gives you even more credence. You've knocked a trend down before it could get to first base. (Watching baseball here.)

I'm here for you, Nancy with all the latest trends. Here's one....turning the noun "trend" into a verb "trending." This has happened because "trends" were too slow. Now you have catch them in the act of "trending" before they evaporate like the mist at dawn.

p.s. The "desperate plea" part of your post feels familiar and makes me happy. My family called me Sarah Bernhardt while I was growing up. If you continue to recognize such things in people, you will go very far in life.

Good point, David. And good for you for keeping up with the concept of trend, and possibly trends themselves. This must be a bit like cliches being cliches because they're so cliche. (I thought that up myself.)  Except cliches become cliches because they tend (trend?) to be true. Trends are another story, and I'm glad you're keeping track of the issue. God knows I need updating because it's so hard to care about most trends. I hope I can continue to count on you. :--}
