This was for Moan Lisa's Fake Andy Warhol Mail Art Call. I'm glad he came up with the concept because it encouraged me to track down the blotted line photoshop brushes available from Ryan Norbauer's site

I'm afraid I haven't mastered the brush in any way but I'm closer than I was thanks to Mssrs. Lisa and Norbauer. My attempts at the handdrawn version of this technique (the blotted line technique) were somewhat less than stellar but I think that's because Warhol worked on a much larger scale than I did. Also he's a genius and I am sub-genius. Anyhow, I did like the way this came out even if the line quality is flawed.

Thanks, DVS...For anyone not familiar with Warhol's commercial work I heartily (do I ever do anything heartily?) recommend it. At once whimsical and something else (when you use that "At once" construction you have to pair it with something paradoxical but alas my erudition is paper thin so you're on your own) these works have something you may find missing in his fine art which is: beautiful draftsmanship. The blotted line technique, a description of which Mr. Norbauer references on his website, did not begin with Warhol but his work is the most public example of it. In its quaint DIY humility and gorgeous colors it anticipates the fast approaching 60s hippie aesthetic. It may have also influenced that aesthetic.
This book is a good introduction to the style.

Great! & someone did their homework. That's a real fake as opposed to a fake fake.
