Frank O'Hara has been discussed at IUOMA frequently and also among folks with similar affinities. "Sardines" is actually a real painting by Mike Goldberg. I always thought it was a fiction. For one of the most illuminating discussions on "Why I am not a Painter" in recent history, please see:

This includes work by x-IUOMA Marie Wintzer (aka Empress Marie Antonette) who recently, surprise!, wrote a poem entitled "Sardines."

WA, I am so glad you like "Sardine Oil." I hope Frank is smiling - somewhere.

I love it, and I love it's origin/point of departure.... Frank O'Hara is an interesting guy....I loved that when he and Larry Rivers called it quits, Frank lived with Larry's mother, Birdy.

Wen, I am glad it arrived. Thank you for posting.

Your asemic visual poem - "Sardine Oil for WA Rodgers - is not entirely random. It is based on Frank O'Hara's poem "Why I am not a painter":

In the poem is a discussion about a painting called "Sardines." That seems to me to be about what can happen during the process of composition - the unexpected. When I noticed the words "sardine oil" appeared in "Sardine Oil for WA Rodgers" on some found text, I knew I had to build what remained around Frank O'Hara.

Thanks again!
