Twitter #mailart international jigsaw puzzles

Twitter #mailart international jigsaw puzzles

All these cards were sent as part of the Twitter #mailart project

My aim was to recreate antique postcards bought in a little street market just off Plaza Colon in Madrid and recreate them in the modern day from exactly the same angle as the original photographer. The resulting images are then used to create an international jigsaw puzzle, in which the two halves of the picture are sent to different parts of the world and the recipients given each others addresses.

On their own the pictures work really well, showing change through time and technology, but as a whole they really work, sometimes containing small visual jokes, or really showing the complete concept.

Some of these cards were really hard to do from an emotional perspective, taking the old and cutting it up, but the end effect justified the pain!

All the cards that make up the project (both halves) are here in this set.
