Comment by Heleen de Vaan on March 5, 2014 at 10:17am: That's coincidentally, I heard about the yell / song 'Haway the lads' recently, and looked it up (see this dictionary). There's even a lingual dispute on it (see this text). As I love languages, I think it interesting. But I am not sure if Stripygoose supports Newcastle United FC or any other club - and I am confused by the 'Geordie - Mackem' controversy, it might be something like Ajax-Feyenoord (although I'm living in the Ajax region, the Feyenoord song ('hand in hand') is uniting and therefore I think I prefer.
Anyhow, mail art is uniting, and birds - by flying from here to there and vice versa - are uniting, crossing borders, too!
By the way, the Dutch version of this Bird has black and white stripes, too :-)
