That's so beautiful!!!
Thanks DVS. I have a bad foot so any movement is rather slow these days.
Perhaps the best movements are slow ones -- like the waltz (if anyone remembers that): slow, slow, quick-quick slow.
Now let's rock!
Claire, I thought it was too boring. The main idea
There was Hermeneutics.
Now there is
HermAneutics - so Val can have his own movement.
ha ha ha - brilliant Val!
DVS!: Why O why do you do that?! I read your latest comment and planned to reply (eventually...%_^), but now it's gone! :(
Maybe you should run a bc thread to me inclusive of all the comments you delete...? (Mmm, we could make a book of them...?? Could be werwy interesting out-of-context...? %_^) (Hmm.....)
On reading the latest comments,
i smiled.
Ism iled
and perhaps created a new ism
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!
Guilty as charged on the incoherence.
Formalism isn't a movement but that tendency in "the academy" to look at formal elements and structures and place them above things like content and expression. When that becomes prescribed, you often feel a "coldness" in the work, a feeling that it's form-ulaic.
I (somewhat...) agree w/ "...any movement that contains an 'ism' is worthless." Yet, I definitely like some "ism"s myself. At the same time, as I said, the limits inferred by such labels infuse them w/ something I find very distasteful...
lol %_^ In this case though, I just wasn't clear as to what he was referring- his latter explanation alluded to a thread/talk we engaged in a while back, thus: clarified.
There is an expressed point of view from those who inow about art (which manifestly excludes me) that any movement taht contains an 'ism' is worthless. If I knew anything about art, which i don'(t, I would concur with this.
Don't worry too much if you don't understand what DVS is saying. Those of us who know and love him have had the same problem for a long time.
Aw, Thanks Valentine!
Jus' thinkin'...: "Formalism" infers a definite coldness to me. Also, adherence to a prescribed set of rules/a "school," as it were (ach: a limit!!). I prefer to see it as a (certain...) sense of balance... (But yes, we each have our own - very subjective! - notions of any given concept...I like to imbibe any idea that intrigues me rather thoroughly... Eventually, it becomes skewed and coloured within a/the particular conceptual atmosphere of self (and, thus, informed by all of the myriad ramifications of particular being...). Hence, ideas often take on a (distinctly!) non-vernacular tone, shall we say... (Makes the world a more interesting place to this solipsistic lass anyway! %_^)) (Parenthetically yours -)
