Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
It is such a free open and spiritually democratic way of doing art - making & sharing in one flow. The sharing-showing of my work is of a piece with its making.

I got fired up by Ray Johnson some years ago, reading ' Ray Johnson correspondences by organiser Donna de Salvo.. I return to it again & again.

Also 'Mailed Art in Uppsala Choosing Your Partner / Valj din Partner' , editor Peter R Meyer. In fact it was re-reading this catalogue today that led me to Google Klaus Groh and then found this website !

So glad to see you here, my friend, and glad to see you at Haptic Poetry.

It's always been one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs. The idea came after watching their performance of it at Pink Pop '92 on YouTube, which is well worth watching (if you are so inclined). I saw them live just 2 months after that for the first time & it changed my life.

Well, Laurence, maybe we are NOT closing it! you never know how things will go around here. That is why it is so much fun. Anyway, dear friend, you may still come by the "Katerina Nikoltsou" group...we are a bunch of cats... and one dog, Snooky!

    Katerina
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Thank you, Laurence, I usually put my mail art into envelopes to please the Greek postal clerks. They don't want to be resposible for tearing my collages, etc. but i try to add a bit of art on the envelopes!

Our weather here "in the south" was cloudy, but clear tonight and it is warm because of the winds from the sahara! Tomorrow i am hoping for sunshine to go to the seaside (my shack is 22 minutes away in Halkidiki).

Sending some Greek sunshine and warmth your way!
  • Karen Champlin

    I like your wild photos.
  • Karen Champlin

    I do. Very much so!
  • Tomoe N

    To Laurence,
Wow, thank you for saying that. I have been doing writing, photography, and painting in different schools, but thinking about making a living I also do book art, so I start experimenting doing handmade stationaries to sell. I am still learning from different books and also hand craft artists what I see at a fair over here in Japan as well.

And thank you for your friend request. I accepted.
    Nice to meet you.
    Tomoe
  • Henning Mittendorf

Dear Laurence, thank you very much indeed for your friendship and kind words.
I think by cognition and communication we construct our world. At that the how of our conduct is decisive. And mail art is a good communication media, life way.
Thank you for your friendship and best greetings

All my pictures are old. I'm in a rut! Diana

It is good to know you like Japanese traditional culture. Let me know if you want to know something about it.

I like western culture rather, so I have been back and forth in between USA most of my life. It has been hard to be there in terms of their immigration issues though. I like western contemporary art and I hope to be getting involved with it more.
  • Diana Marshall

You are doing lovely work-the installation is wonderful! I'm just coming off 10 years where all my elderly family past away; my mom in 2005. I'm not carrying much joy with me at present but I hope, like you, my creativity re-ignites soon! Best wishes, Diana
  • andytgeezer

Great to see another Londoner on here! Thanks for the add and do come and have a cuppa with mailart some time over here!
  • andytgeezer

I was thinking of running a mailart night at mine some time. I have 3 people signed up (but a very tiny house!) I'll send the invite as soon as I work out the best date
  • andytgeezer

  • ainssomeone

    thanks for the add :)
    i sure appreciate your compliments
  • Bifidus Jones

Laurence, I'm just glad you're here in whatever way works best for you. The photos you've added are terrific. Are those your paintings? They're marvelous, whoever did them. My mail art seems to expand and contract in ways I've never imagined since I first sent that piece to you as you can see in this example I sent out for IUOMA cat day last month:

    Stay encouraged, Bifidus

Laurence, I know very little English. I understand a little French. If you know Italian can write what I understand. Mizé a hug. I translate on google but can not be the best
  • Henning Mittendorf

    Thanks! HeMi

  • Bifidus Jones

Yippee! Looking forward to it. Terrific self-portrait-- You've been posting lotsa lovely stuff all around Regards, Bifidus
  • Bifidus Jones

I've never worked with wax and dyes but I like the idea of it being, as you say, uncorrectable and in the moment--a perfect medium for a self-portrait.
  • brunocassaglia

    Ciao Laurence! :-) bruno

Signs and stones is my basic mail art project since 1994. Each year I added another element (the moon, food, snakes, turtles and so on). When Bush Jr was preparing wars I started FRIOUR (which is peace in Icelandic tongue). Friour is conceived as a collective project, so everyone can use it and propose a project with a peace angle. 10 projects have been developed so far. The 11th is the jazz and freedom project.
