26.11.14 Dare Envelopes & Ms. Annette R., ...Yes, preserving one's privacy is indeed important. That's why I generally send  all my postcards to "PostSecret" & otherwise always sign them anonymously. Sometimes, I don't even bother to send them to  begin with. This way, everyone possibly involved is safe.  ...&  as ironic as it may seem, this sez a lot for the process of sending things a la "naked mail". Did you know that there are certain postmen who will actually read your postcard before it is even delivered to your mailbox??(....not to mention that "Big Brother" has a way of knowing everything anyway). Take care. & Bitter Safe than sorry as I am,  Richard C.

to members, ya i agree w/ richard, quite amazing in a mail-art group where

ppl don't want to share their address, get w/ the program, this is about connecting openly w/ other creatives, some ppl nowadays are so suspicious and panicked about doing normal activities. please go to my page and see my address, we need more mail-art!

Thinking more about the question of privacy and blurring addresses for posting in a group such as this... I just read Richard and Carl's comments. Something Carl said struck me: "please go to my page and see my address, we need more mail-art!".  Yes, our name and address are on each of our pages for all to see. Why bother blotting out the name/address of an envelope on a group page? I hate to see suspicion and paranoia take away from sharing mail. That's what IUOMA is about. Even if the postman/woman reads the backs of my postcards, I don't think anything I say to an IUOMA member will set their hearts racing. Am I missing something?

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

I usually block out an address just to emphasis the beauty of the envelope and not have it as a distraction:

As our addresses are on our page, no "secret" about it :-)

03.12.14 Dare Borderline G. & Envelopes,...Sorry, I am all confused (CZL & Nadja S.)....Very nice painted envelope & all that....but what is Ms. Meeah Williams doing here????? I am confused ( as per usual).  Huh? Richard C.

  • borderlinegrafix

I am confused, as usual, too!

The address is CZ, but the handwriting looks like Meeah's hand.

  • Terry Owenby

MomKat, thanks for explaining why you blot out addresses. I agree that the address could distract from the beauty of the envelope. Good thought...one that obviously never entered my mind. :-) Thank you.

An envelope I received from Marni on neighboring Whidbey Island!

I really love this envelope! (I don't mind my address being exposed, I like it as part of the wholeness of the piece, but respect others' opinions on this....)

  • stripygoose

Jan - that's a really stylish envelope - are those tiny pieces of torn text in the '0'? It's a little bit hard to tell.
  • Jan Hodgman

Yes, meticulous little bitsy pieces of text/type---quite beautiful to behold.

  • stripygoose

Wow - I love the way they are all sort of nestled into a pile. It's really effective.
  • Terry Owenby

Jan, that is one gorgeous envelope with all those tiny pieces of text. Marni did an excellent job. I can't imagine all the gluing! :-)

  • Terry Reid

    Jan

I guess the 'O' could be for 'Anacortes'..........an 'O' for 'Island'.  So, if all the alphabet's letters are gathered in the circle of the 'O', what is in the square of the 'Envelope'?

    terryreid_terryreid or not

  • Terry Reid

oh, yeah, the pic is painted by the marvelous Elizabeth Gertsakis - not a self-portrait

Jan, that 'O' envelope is superb.  Really love it.  Minimal and yet so full! Thank you for letting us have a lookey!

  • EJ Vest

Hi all!  I hope everyone is having a nice day.  Below is an envie I made that I am rather pleased with due to the striking image.  Thanks for letting me share with you. :)

    MomKat KatNik,
V much liked your revelation of envelope of a SECREt eXCHANGE nature, secret revealed that  it originated from the hand of Amy Irwin (give her regards (secretly) from me).
Not sure what you are describing as a 'fluffed our address".  Would like, if you can, to see.

Would any body out there in the world like to me to send them a large card from a series I am currently working on that uses philosophical texts in the art. Spinoza to be exact. Am always looking to expand my list of friends and my list of addresses of those that want to exchange. I might be a bit random but I do like to send art to those that would appreciate it the most.

  • Amy L. Tabler-Yingling

Hey Greg, I would love to receive a card from you!
