BANANAS

AKA Anna Banana Appreciation Band (ABAB)

The theme is Bananas & Anna Banana.  Many of our members are « bananas » themselves, others are »fruity », a few are « nutty », and one is completely « ape ».
If you are none of these, don’t worry we can help you with specially designed projects and exams for your progress to the banana status you deserve.
We will also explore the many works of Anna Banana as we give appreciation for involvement in Mail Art & "Art".
PS I you are « crackers » or « loony », this group may not be for you.
Also: see link and fill in the form and return it to Anna Banana!

According to his wife, Dean is alive and well, and enjoying life doing something very secretive outside Europe. It involves neither bananas nor Mail Art. He may be temporarily returning to Paris in September.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Maybe he is going bananas? in Cuba?

  • Valentine Mark Herman

You can guess, but I am sworn not to tell!

(I'm leaving the Group for now, and will be back when Dean comes back. Good muck!/Bon chance!)

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Sometimes mystery is good, sometimes it drives people in seine. We want to know, Val! But clearly we won't, so ... I leave a "?".

  • Mike Dickau

I HAVE A POSTCARD DEAN SENT TO ME DATED APRIL 24, 2013 WHICH IS POSTMARKED: YOSEMITE, CALIFORNIA. STRANGE? EH?

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    BANANA RAG!

Nice blue-printed envelope and artistamps inside, too:

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

That's from Anna Banana of course!

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Banana and peanut butter sandwiches. YOu all have discovered them, yes? (Or maybe invented them. Over and over! ha :--)

Angie, have you another little dog in addition to Snooky? Inquiring minds . . .

During major reorganization last week, this totally black and contorted banana peel turned up. It was probably put in that strange spot to please Dean Bananas back when he started the group. (I'm not checking dates.) I'm wondering whether to send it to Dean.

  • Mim Golub Scalin

Yikes, Dean will have one very squishy banana upon his return if you send it.

  • Rebecca Guyver

Anna Banana sighting, Firstsite, Colchester, Essex - Xerography exhibit

  • Nancy Bell Scott

No worries, Mim--the banana peel is dryest of the dry. Almost nothing left! So it will be sent.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Happy Halloween to the Banana Band :-)

  • Jen

Anybody interested in the February 21 World Banana Day & the February 23 International Banana Bread Day held in Candace, Canada? We can send out banana mail art pieces.  If interested, I'll compile a list. Write me!  We did it last year and it was fun to receive lots of banana mailart in the mail.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Sure, Jen...put me on the list for Feb 21 World Banana Day :-)

  • Rebecca Guyver

    Yes, I'll take part.

  • Lynn Radford

Count me in! I've had bananas on the brain lately, not to mention, I am bananas.

  • Jen

Hello everybody!! I'm setting up the World Banana Day (February 21) & the International Banana Bread Day (February 23) Mail Art Exchange. Participants will send out banana themed mailart or banana bread recipes and try to have your mailart arrive on neither February 21st or the 23rd to other participants. Please let me know if you're interested, by writing me or replying here.  I am compiling the Banana List now.

Here's a banana mail art piece I made last year:

Don't forget to eat your bananas, it's good for you!

    Jen (Stimpdawg)

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Edmund Hippo helped me make some banana mail art this weekend :

  • Louise Kiner

  • Mathom-House

Send some banana-mail today. When will those banana letters arrive? I don't know!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Well, those in Europe are already getting the Banana Mail Art from Greece!

DO NOT OPEN until Feb 21!  :-)

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Banana mail art beginning to arrive, but will wait until Feb 21 to post it all here :-) Don't open your banana mail art, let it be a surprise !

    (Sneak peek from Rebecca :-)

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Banana Mail Art came on Valentin Day

...but must wait until Feb 21 to open :-)

    Thank you, Mathom-House!

  • Jen

Think my international World Banana Day mailart may be late.  Sorry, I couldn't think of what to do and have been busy.

  • Jen

My first banana mailart piece. I don't like waiting. I will though. :)

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    JUST  WAIT :-)

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

  • Heleen de Vaan

One out of a serie of Banana Mail Art. I'm afraid they'll be too late to arrive for Banana Day (21st Febr), but due to a special treatment these mail art bananas keep fresh even after expiration date (unless the mail companies eat them).

  • Heleen de Vaan

In Dutch, the words 'banana' (banaan) and 'moon' (maan) rhyme.
And while taking a banana in my hand and watching this (now late, unfortunate) fruit, this image came into mind.
Alas the English translation isn't as nice as the Ducth phrase. Something like 'the banoon is shining'. But I hope the receiver will like it anyway. Sent to Italy.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

A warm welcome to Mathom-House and a big thank you to him, MomKat & Rebecca for their Banana Mailart I have already received, but waiting to open and blog on the 21th.

I have better hurry up and get mine out.

  • Alicia Starr

Housed in this cover (2" tall 1.5 wide) (5.08 x 3.81cm) is a wee boekie, accordion folded and chuck full of thoughts, a poem, history and wonderful little paintings and collages all in the spirit of, yes, the banana.

Thank you Rebecca. This is a little gem.

  • Alicia Starr

Katerina pays tribute. Girl, you got some banana energy. here is the other side.

    Makes perfect sense. Thanks Kat.

p.s. Those of you living across the pond, your cards will probably be late.

    apologies.

  • Heleen de Vaan

Exciting envelope from Greece, too! I leave it closed until Friday 21st, because I think it might be banana mail art (even though it says 'Just Greek Mail Art'!?)!?

I love date stamps in other alphabets, so love to see this 21 ΦEB 2014 - thank you very  much, Katerina, ευχαριστώ ! :-)

  • Jen

Lovin' all the banana mailart! Can't wait til Friday to open the banana mailart pieces!

  • Heleen de Vaan

My banana mail art is on its way to you now, Jen, but will be too late for the 21st!..
One advantage of this delay is that I could add a stamp print to it, of the eraser stamp I carved today :-)

(part of the envelop, the content should be a surprise :-) )

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Oh, Heleen...true the envelope is stamped for Feb 21...

so it must be Banana Art...but how did I not stamp like these:

    ...dunno :-(

Some even have The Cat :

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Edmund Hippo says: JUST WAIT! ...until Friday :-)

  • Jen

Cute hippo! A few more hours....... woot!

The Anna Banana was at Ex Postal Facto in San Francisco. I've been seeing photos of her posted with all of the amazing Mail Artists, whose names are well known. Any of you banana huggers attended? I couldn't, dang!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)
