BANANAS

AKA Anna Banana Appreciation Band (ABAB)

The theme is Bananas & Anna Banana.  Many of our members are « bananas » themselves, others are »fruity », a few are « nutty », and one is completely « ape ».
If you are none of these, don’t worry we can help you with specially designed projects and exams for your progress to the banana status you deserve.
We will also explore the many works of Anna Banana as we give appreciation for involvement in Mail Art & "Art".
PS I you are « crackers » or « loony », this group may not be for you.
Also: see link and fill in the form and return it to Anna Banana!

It's the music, Erni, not the monster. Have you ever had to listen to bagpipes for more than 30 seconds? The thought of that 'music' makes be go oh Nooooooooooooooooooo

  • Valentine Mark Herman

After seeing some of these horrible photos I think I'll stick to Mars bars...and my alto recorder. val

Just back from going Bananas in the Canary Islands where I had funny Banana Ice Cream on a stick, a Banana Split (of course), and my greatest discovery was bananas on my vegetarian pizza!!!  Yes, you must try putting bananas on pizza the next time you make one, you will be pleasently surprised.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome to Carina, Madawag & Amy.  But I must warn you, now that you are in the Banana Band, the Paparazzi will be following you everywhere.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Welcome back to our leader; it was a long, quiet week in the banana group.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Warning note to Carina, Madawag and Amy: Beware Papa Razzi.

Mama PapaRazzi can be pretty nasty too.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Great! (Where does mama Razzi keep her bananas?)

Ok, I am bananas today!   This piece was laying on top of my mail pile.  It arrived the day before I left for vacation, so I set it aside to scan when I returned home.  This morning, still suffering from jet lag, and not wearing my glasses, I thought "WOW", that would make a great banana, mail art piece.  When I put my glasses on, I found.......Yikes!  It is Great Banana Mail already!  Dean made this card for me.  I don't know how I forgot it.  It looked so new & fresh and had three (3) bananas.....  That was all I could see without my glasses.....  The back is funny too!  Thank you again, Dean.  :-)

I have a photo that I took while on vacation shows actual, captured, bananas under refrigeration. Will post at another time with a banana story.

    My "BANANA DOMINO PLATE":

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Banana Domino Plate: 3 thumbs UP !

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome to Mike.  But I must warn you Mike, now that you are in the Banana Band, the Paparazzi will be following you everywhere. (A Ha, the photo uploaded today.  Look at the intense concentration on this guy, very serious stuff!)

  • Mike Dickau

This is my first banana-related artistamp. It was a tribute to Anna Banana:

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

WOW Mike, a real work of art.  Can you really draw a banana?  I have to cut them out of supermarket ads.  I always think about the guy who has his master's in photography from a big University, and his job is to take photos of bananas for supermarket ads.  I wonder if he gets to eat his subjects after the photo shoot?

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Welcome back, Big Banana! And welcome to the newbie bananas, too! Dean is back from his trip to the Canary Islands, and i am away on my trip to Athens. Last night thought of ya awl while I ate a banana/choco cream pie (small piece)!

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Those are too ripe. About 12 brown spots too many.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Great photos and I can't wait until the video comes out.

Racism, football and bananas (from the BBC)

    :

Anzhi angered by Lokomotiv's Samba banana row claims

Anzhi Makhachkala have criticised Lokomotiv Moscow's "interference" after the Moscow club claimed its fans did not throw a banana at Chris Samba.

Lokomotiv spokesman Denis Novoselov angered Anzhi vice-president German Chistyakov by saying it was "thrown by a fan of the Dagestani [Anzhi]".

Chistyakov said: "It seems FC Lokomotiv is trying to interfere in the investigation... with this statement.

"We are confident this is nothing but an absolute nonsense and foolishness."

We demand [Lokomotiv] provide us with the conclusive evidence, or immediate and official refutation with an apology to our fans and the club."

    German Chistyakov Anzhi Makhachkala vice-president

Anzhi had called on Lokomotiv to identify the fan who threw a banana at former Blackburn defender Samba in Sunday's game, which hosts Lokomotiv won 1-0.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Sounds like a good deal, Erni. I should apologize for my bad attitude about overripe bananas--it slips out every now and then.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Janine: it was a report about a football match, in which the supporters of one team threw a banana at a black player of the other team. The banana is seen as a form of racist abuse towards black players. It is pure racism: do not try and understand it as it is not worth the effort.

    Val

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Thanks for the explaination Val, I was on the same line as Janine.  OH football, that's where I bow out.

  • Amy Irwen

    Its a Friday!

This is one of my first Bananafish stickers. I created the character as tribute to J. D. Salinger's short story "Perfect Day for Bananafish" in 1976 first as sculpture and later as a graphic for my Mail Art:

This is an excerpt from the story:

  • Mike Dickau

This is what the 3-D version looks like (the piece is called: "A Hot Day for Bananafish"):

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Very good bananafish sticker, Mike Dickau. I remember that story. And the dominoes with banana--it just does something for me in a big way though I don't know why. Just does.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

More Mike, More Mike, and then what happens to them?  Great story, scary in fact, might we be related somehow?

  • Mike Dickau

It is Freudian symbol-laced tale of madness-not a happy ending. My imagined bananafish (double-phallic symbol) goes on and survives in my world as sculptures, Mail Art, etc-in a surreal, existential, pop-funk kind of way...

    "Stranger on the Shore":

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Let me guess, Janine has really gone Bananas!  And Erni as well with his Anna Banana stamps.  What is the world coming to when Germans and Swiss go bananas?   Does this mean that you can now wash and hang out your clothes on a Sunday?

  • Valentine Mark Herman

And go shoppingon a 'long' Saturday?

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Great come back Erni, you amaze me.  Very funny.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

You two are surely Bananas.  Where do you get this stuff?  I like the photo of Erni's bedroom!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Oh Sorry, I thought that was your bedroom and not a Banana Museum.  Well the Banana Museum is now on my list of things to see, but I'm afraid it is after the train museum in Hamburg.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Awww. Erni saves Janine from Mean Dean. That is sweet.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

OH sorry Janine, the photo with the man in stocks with a banana in his ear is very nice.  There Nancy, is that good enough?

But really Janine, I did like the female winking Banana... and not wearing a shirt?

  • Nancy Bell Scott

I have sympathy for everyone, now including Dean. Some new photos will follow shortly. An incredible banana discovery.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Ok, this morning my cat Ramsay walked two blocks to the beach (by herself!) and found an asemic banana lying on the sand. A drugged-up neighbor watched her bite it open and eat the banana flesh, and she then dragged the skin home, with asemics fairly intact. Ramsay was exhausted, I thought banana flesh would provide more sustenance than that. She dropped it on the floor of my studio, and my camera took three photos, one every four hours. Now the banana skin is dead and the asemics have become one with the overripe skin and I've had to put it out for garbage pickup tomorrow to avoid fruit flies.

Ever seen one of these? Me neither. Just felt it was my duty to report it.

  • Alicia Starr

An asemic banana, this takes all. Dean is going to go bananas when he sees this tomorrow. Good kitty Ramsay.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Brillant Nancy, very funny and I am laughing.  I actually think your cat wrote on the banana.  I can see in one part it looks like it reads; "I want Friskies Banana Flavor"

Well a big WELCOME to Alicia who joins the Banana Band at a very funny time ... Dean is in hot water with Janine, and Erni is sending Janine rolled up bananas that looks like hearts.  The TV series is meant to be coming out this Fall, and don't worry, we will find a part for you.  Maybe Dean's body guard?

Cool Cats in Paris?  Well here they are: VIDEO LINK:  http://youtu.be/bzG9O_2Avcs

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

I received a banana card from PC (Tic Tac), and note she has her own banana stamps!   I have heard of this 1994 film: Bananas is my Business, abut I have never seen it. I'll be looking out for the DVD the next time I go shopping.  But maybe it was just a hit in Germany?  Thank you PC, I must peel one off to you soon.

And look at this collection of Banana stickers:

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Up coming events and Banana stamps from Anna Banana.  What does one do with Banana stamps?

OH my Centre Pompidou?  I don't know.  I still trying to get Erni into the Louvre!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

What did Mr. Banana say to Vizma's Red Bag?

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Go on Katerina, complete the trilogy: Banana + Red Bag + Arty Slide!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

The red bag is great.  I didn't know it was flat.  That Vizma! asking us to send it around and put things in it!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Nor did we know it was SOOOO BIG!

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Well well--you ARE a distinguished white bag, Erni.
