Laut BILD bezeichnete der Vorsitzende der Monopolkommission, Justus Haucap, den Aufschlag von 35 Cent als „Schritt in die falsche Richtung“. Zugleich monierte Haucap das generelle Preisniveau für Briefe bei der Deutschen Post. „Das Briefporto ist prinzipiell zu hoch. Der Spielraum nach unten beträgt einige Cent“, sagte der Chef der Monopolkommission.
