News from Fluxus Heidelberg Center

Fluxus was an international, interdisciplinary community of artists, composers, designers and poets during the 1960s and 1970s who engaged in experimental art performances which emphasized the artistic process over the finished product.^[1]^[2] Fluxus is known for experimental contributions to different artistic media and disciplines and for generating new art forms. These art forms include intermedia, a term coined by Fluxus artist Dick Higgins;^[3]^[4]^[5]^[6] concept art, first developed by Fluxus artist Henry Flynt;^[7]^[8] and video art, first pioneered by Nam June Paik and Wolf Vostell.^[9]^[10]^[11] Dutch gallerist and art critic Harry Ruhé describes Fluxus as "the most radical and experimental art movement of the sixties."^[12]^[13]

There is a possibility that Mr Shiraga will do a Gutai performance for the project that John proposed on Gutai for 2013

Comment by Guido Vermeulen on January 28, 2013 at 4:34pm: Message from Igor Bartolech, I am sorry to announce that a dear friend and a very important artist, Mr. Shozo Shimamoto, of Osaka, Japan, passed away on Friday, January 25th, three days after his 85th birthday. He was a pioneer as one of the original members of the Gutai art movement in the 50s and then took up mail art, spending subsequent decades as a performer on an international stage and a teacher of younger artists everywhere.
