Wonderfully explained, DVS!

Fluxus was an art and literary movement of the second half of the 20th century. Fluxus was inspired by many ideas from DaDa but evolved beyond DaDa. Fluxus endorsed and encouraged mail art. Yoko Ono is one of the most well-known examples of Fluxus artist who did mail art. Many artists at IUOMA are/were in some way connected to Fluxus or identify with Fluxus. DaDa and Fluxus have defined many mail art practices such as collage, performance art, visual poetry, found material, chance.

Ray Johnson was close with many people in the Fluxus movement, although he did not officially become a member of Fluxus.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OR PARTICIPATE IN DADA AND FLUXUS TO DO MAIL ART.

People you exchange with might be influenced by DaDa and Fluxus due to mail art's history.

DaDa is an art and literary movement of the early 20th century.

An artist in New York City named Ray Johnson started the mail art movement that many people at IUOMA identify with was very influences by DaDa. Many mail artists also identify with DaDa and you will see many references to Da Da in contemporary mail art.

“Dada doubts everything. Dada is an armadillo. Everything is Dada, too. Beware of Dada. Anti-dadaism is a disease: selfkleptomania, man's normal condition, is Dada. But the real dada's are against Dada.”

-Tristan Tzara
