About Ruby aka BeeBlume
I am an artist, activist, gardener, beekeeper, fruit enthusiast, educator and author.
I am interested in botany, biology, psychology, nature, comtemporary art, pop culture, puppetry, history....My main art form is ceramics but I have done everything from bookmaking and silkscreening to handspinning yarn, sculpture, collage, marbling, photography, soap making, and graphic design. I even ran a giant puppet theatre in my younger years. I just like making things!
I currently live on a farm in the country where I raise sheep, cows, llamas, chickens, ducks and rabbits. I have cats and dogs too. I manage a mixed fruit orchard of about 100 trees, large collections of roses and dahlias and many other flowers. I prune fruit trees in the winter, shear llamas and alpacas in the spring and sell fruit, jam and other homemade goodies in the summer and fall.
I've been a maker since I popped out of the womb and started my life as a correspondence artist back in the 1960s when every child was encouraged to have a PenPal or two. As far back as that I also made books, dolls, bespoke greeting cards and more.
I have several boxes of correspondence going all the way back. While I haven't been explicitly involved in mail art I have maintained long correspondences with other artist friends, traded ongoing projects back and forth through the mail and snail mailed original art to my bigger list of friends as my annual New Years tradition.
I recently discovered post-crossing and several other mail exchange platforms online and I am excited to exchange and learn.
I included my newish artist website above but I can also be found at

I actually have only been here since 2009. moved here after things went haywire where I was living on the east coast. I'm mostly from california but I have moved so many times that I dont feel right saying I'm 'from' anywhere.
the idea of someone living here since the settler days is fascinating. that is a completely alien concept to me. funny.
yeah there are a couple postcards for you already in the pipeline over here. it's a randomized process so I dont know when but soon enough you'll be getting things from across this vast distance.
well whattaya know. I will put you on my mailing list and I'll send you a postcard asap. I'm sure the local postal workers will be amused.
I live in town. my parents used to live up where you are. I know that neighborhood fairly well. I got a lot of orienteering practice in the woods up there.
if you organize something in the area ya be sure to tell me about it. good to meet you.
