In order to be a SELF-portrait, wouldn't YOU need to be the one doing the painting or taking the photo yourSELF?
I have many photos taken of me by OTHER people, but only a few that I took myself.

Please clarify.

In my humble opinion "self-portraits/self-portraiture" is where the artist/photographer is also the subject. Share the images you either painted of yourself or photos of yourself that you shot--make sense?

I started taking self-portraits years ago and have exhibited some of the images in group juried shows here in NYC. Just when I thought I was finally going to "make it" or at least be "discovered" by an important juror from The Whitney, the gallery director introduced us and then finished the answer to the question the juror asked me! That director was absolutely wrong and by the time I tried to correct things and make it right--the juror had left the gallery and the director moved onto someone else. Oh, well- timing is everything I suppose.

Take care all!
