I just got my long critique of generative AI published in ArtStyle. Might be of interest to some of you. At the end I quote Nonlocal Variable.
Comment
Thanks for comments! It's not my thing to try to impose prohibitions. Do what thou wilt, and so forth. I just wanted to raise awareness that AI, and large scale generative AI in particular, comes with a set of serious problems.
Mail Art..."Correspondence Art"...has no rules, no limits. If it takes "snail mail" art from Germany postmarked 11 December 2025 to arrive in Greece on 10 March 2026, perhaps it is time for "email" correspondence art/ email art? computer art? electronic art? AI art? Why keep a horse and buggy when you have an automobile? :-)
I read the post, but I'll pass on the comments since I can't write in English without my AI assistant.
Thanks for the link!
remember similar discussions and articles when computers entered the mail-art network. Just a new tool to use in the way we communicate?
the idea that there are “positive values” that determine which tools are allowed in mail art makes no sense to me.
you are of course free to reject AI in your own work... personally i will continue to experiment with whatever tools i find interesting and i will happily undermine any attempts to introduce prohibitions into mail art.
