Ok, I just received a spam email with gobbledygook and then, at the end, the Van Gogh quote "How wonderful yellow is.  It stands for the sun."

Is this mail-art?

That idea fills me with desire and stage fright.

Bonjour, Valentine Mark Herman (though it is probably evening in France now).  Would you believe, I have read books and seen films about Van Gogh and his brother, Theo, yet do not remember the parts about mail art?  I certainly take your word for it and hope google will give me some images.

Yes, maybe the message did come from him!  But now, if it's true, I cannot keep it a special secret.  Oh well.

Wouldn't we love to be present at a tea or wino party between the neighbors Vincent and Elvis!

encore bonjour nancy! in his letters and envelopes to his brother theo, vincent van gogh revealed himself to be a mail artist, so perhaps the message that you received did come from him. if so he is obviously alive and well. if that is the case he is probably sharing the big house in the next village where elvis -- who is also alive and well -- lives; regards, le tour de val

It gave me a laugh, actually, their trying to impress me with an art quote into opening their spam link.  But I did think, oh, this is a lot better than the usual string of non-art words and non-words!

bonjour! if there is any art involved, and if the piece came by real postal mail, then yes i would say it is mail art. if neither of these conditions are satisfied, then i would say it isn't. regards le tour de val

Oh Angie, we cross-posted. I was answering myself, not you. Good thing you clarified yourself at the end there.
