The Music Boekie - by Cheryl Penn [spoiler alert: contains Elvis made entirely of guitars]

Music was the first theme for the official kick off of Cheryl's New Alexandrian Library. She is sending one of her books back for every work she is getting, and as usual I'm on the winning side. Her book is an ode to music, to the poetry in all music, to its many facets.

We know she is an extremely talented painter, drawer, photographer, and her latest pieces have confirmed that her writing is in a different league as well. All of this can be found in this book, a window on music. I was about to say music made art, but of course music is a form of art in its own right.

[from the book]

Innate
Inherent
Intrinsic
Integral
Essential
The Act The Jump
The Work The Dance
Sacred Ritual
Authentic Mining
Of the Soul
Do you Hear?

I love the painting on soft and thick canvas, the way the text is printed on it as well (how does she do that??). But I think the icing on the cake is...

...Elvis made entirely of guitars! He is the star of the book. On the cover and inside. And again, how did she do that?? Absolutely smashing, I love it! Cheryl, thank you for this fab Number One, I am very much looking forward to more from The New Alexandrian Library!

She seems to be able to print on just about everything! Almost irritating :-)) The other day I tried to print something on a simple transparent sheet and it jammed up the printer (at work!). So those canvas prints are fascinating, yes. And Elvis, I have no words...

Major work for sure with everything going on in this piece. I really like these works that use music as concept and material. Silent music? Cheryl even makes a music notation grid at the beginning. Great!

And wow, the Elvis thing. The pages go along, building up a sort of narrative, and then BAM! You have Elvis at the end like a huge twist of irony that makes you reconsider everything or a surprise ending at the end of a very well-crafted short story - I think it's called a reversal.

Fine work and excellent blog!

Hello Sweet Pea  - my head was down - making Books about Books :-) - which are getting FAR too complicated... Thank you for the as usual FAB blog - you call them small - but, nope - they're still out-sized :-)!  Oversized? I'm uncertain of current politically correct terminology... Thank you :-). Lisa - same canvas for 3.0 - which hopefully you will be receiving very soon.  Hey Susanna - more pages getting ready for 22 - thank you again SP :-) XXX

Cheryl is incredible creative. A factory from ideas. I´m also a lucky one, who got a copy from this masterpiece.
