This is definately one of the more unusual pieces of mail art I have ever received. I think I'm glad Jayanna is not a good shot. I was very confused though, as the target she has drawn is around "Miss Lake Belton International 2007" and appears to be Jayanna herself It should be no surprise that shooting range trashephemera would come out of Texas, but it was. Thanks for the thought provoking package Jayanna. Remind me not to ever get on your bad side:)

it is an installation Claire-wish I had a better picture, but each figure is about 1 foot long
now that is eerie... looks like an installation...
It's a cool idea -i've been working on my target today. Can't say I'm entirely pleased with it at this point. I'm not good with themes:)
haunting indeed! just got my sheet..hmm...? (interesting resonance...one of the projects I did my sophomore year ['82] re metal distortion assignment - a brass box through which I had someone shoot a hole in two of the sheets [walls] - then I embedded a bullet that looked like it was exiting...)
OK, I just saw the project too. It makes more sense.
Erni got on this gun thing a few days back - some of it is because people know about Burroughs' paintings where he filled shotgun shells with paint & fired them at canvases - action art.
so that IS you!!--you are so pretty I realize now that this is your target project and that you said you did not personally shoot these. They are definately an ultimate found object. They tell a story without telling a story-documenting one moment in time. It is odd how bullets have creeped into the collective art unconscious of IOUMA -and beyond I suppose? The rest of the world thinks Americans still live like the Wild West--and maybe we do
I missed this earlier.
I don't know about Jayanna's intention, but it's a fantastic piece of found material. That alone, at least to me, makes it interesting mail-art. Just a few days ago I posted a piece by Dick Higgins that was music score paper that had been shot with a rifle. Also Lynn Radford posted that metal sign with bullet holes, and it got attention. I think there is something with the randomness factor, pieces where the surface has been somehow broken through that inspires you to think about it. (And DK this excellent Trashpo for sure. It even has writing.)
The way DK has it set up, Miss Lake Belton is juxtaposed with the target. So the viewer starts wondering what the relation is, but I don't think that's intended.
Anyway, cool mail-art IMHO.
Diane- I am glad you received the target.....
I don't think that I am a good shot- unless you are talking about shooting a marshmallow gun, which I am quite good at! I didn't actually have any part in the targets except finding them in an old barracks in Missouri!
I know when my blue marker dried I was like damn, you can still see the lake belton title!!!!
I am looking forward to seeing your interpretation- as well as all the other participants..... I am still experiencing inconsistent internet so after 10am on Tuesday I will have supposedly undisturbed connection again- til then it is going to be hit and miss on my comments and absolutely no pics til then, I tried the other day and it resulted in convincing myself not to throw my laptop out the window! :)
