Submission to Grigori Antonin's Mailart Show in Honor of Jean Genet's 100th Birthday

August 31, 2010 - This photo documents "Solo for Violin," a performance by a Fluxus founder George Maciunas. I posted this last week for a few hours during a discussion on the IUOMA board. I received enough very positive feedback from members who saw it that I thought I'd share it again. Not everybody is familiar. The discussion involved Minnesota mailartist Grigori Antonin. My point was that the photo and the performance made me think of the fable of the Emperor Nero fiddling while Rome burned. This is vaguely connected to my humble submission, The "Flux Medicine" I included, I think, was also orginally a Maciunas invention. Grigster, to your most worthy vigil for Genet:

I keep coming back to this image, the artist bound by decision - how one stroke of a brush, or one note of an instrument can change language perception forever, or not, but I plead yes.
