If this is simple, as Erni says, then I love simple: It's a vibrant and somewhat sculptural piece, and I fell in love with it immediately, including the rattle Erni fashioned by putting the Vitam jar lid inside a slightly bigger jar lid there toward the bottom. It makes a great noise, and I have no idea how Erni got the one lid into the other. There are no obvious signs of vandalism on the larger lid.

Because my camera cannot manage close-ups (I stole the above image from Erni's posting of it somewhere else), it never does justice to Erni's big, artful envelopes. So here are four scans that show most of it, and here is my favorite writing on this envelope so everyone can know what it says: "Dear US Mail People. This is just mail art from Germany. Through delivering it to the address written on the envelope's front you take part in a process that started a couple of days ago in Hamburg, Germany. Thanks!"

Thank you, Erni, from a permanent member of the Erni Bar Fan Club. LOVE the collage plus envelope! p.s. Isn't the shopping bag handle on the envelope a wondrous touch?

Actually Sue, I think you might be right! I've noticed him out the window taking his time to look at what's arriving and, incredibly enough, looking closely at my outgoing envelopes as he sits in his truck. Maybe you all are brightening up the guy against all odds ... !

Great collage you have there.  Somewhat 3D?  Very nice and shrine like. Knowing the problems you have with your mailman, I'll bet he really loves you now!

I saw the "Bar" on the soles and wondered if you moonlight from mail-arting by making shoes (good website). These are *excellent*. (So is the box.) Size 41 explains why they fit well enough; I used to buy Birkenstocks straight from the company in Germany, and wore sizes 39 or 40. (My feet need a lot of help, and a lot of room even though I'm not tall.)

You should know though, Erni, that you picked the right person even if they weren't wearable. I love old shoes, and used to paint my brothers', and sometimes use them as planters.

WOW you have great instinct!

Erni, I'm wearing them! They fit me! Well, they fit because I like big shoes, especially wide shoes, and these are those, and so much better made than ones we find here. Actually I have trash-brains left over after getting these, because my own shoes are much worse. I'll show you soon. p.s. I totally agree with Zappa. You'll see. What a great MA gift!!! I'm walking mail art, man.
