Seer-iously FAB Mail-Art by Chris "Mudhead" Reynolds (Payson, Arizona, USA)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Chris “Mudhead” Reynolds (Payson, Arizona, USA)

December 1, 2014 - Mudhead fans know that our hero (Chris Reynolds) has abandoned the aether, gone off the grid and retreated into the Arizona desert. He has remained true to this pledge for several months now. Mudhead announced his departure from the digital realm in a wonderful, philosophical treatise released on the wake of the phenom success of his Seers zine. Here is a link to the Seers zine blog from August, 2014:

Indeed, the Seers concept amounts to a movement in the arts; and I am definitely a believer. Despite the self-imposed exile, Mudhead still communicates via mail-art. I am totally awed by this work he sent me in response to a sheaf of my vispo. The “Seer Specs” are FAB!

Readers are left to form their own interpretations of the “Seer Specs.” Those are pennies suspended on the lenses, if you can't tell. The specs came in a bag:

The letters D-N-R repeat throughout this mail-art package. Possible meanings range from Department of Natural Resources to Do Not Resuscitate with a lot in between.

Very cryptic! Some of Mudhead’s distinctive drawing was included too:

These gorgeous visual meanderings have a definite street art quality. Asemic writing is present as well.

Some fascinating talismans were at the bottom of the envelope:

The envelope is terrific as well:

And the reverse:

I am proud to report I have been a Mudhead fan for approaching five years. Only in the last year have I been able to work up the courage to send him mail, and it has been a great experience. Is it lonely out there in the desert with this exile thing going on? IUOMA friends might want to drop Chris Reynolds a line. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Despite the vast research team at M-L, I am capable of gaps. I've learned there is a fairly up-to-date Seers blog. Some great art and some folks you might recognize.

Then Meeah Williams made some last summer. Mudhead "stands on the shoulders of giants."

These are the asemic glasses I made for DK in 2013.

02.12.14 Dare Mister De Villo S.,  ......I'm afraid that "I would be a bad judge".  Wretched C.

Richard, haven't you been appointed Bad Art Judge by the MOB(MA)? That's "an offer you can't refuse." It's a lot easier telling people their work is good rather than telling them their work is bad. I don't know how you'll manage.

This might be "The Fall of the House of gUsher" by EA TrashPoe.

02.12.14 (8:31 A.M.) Dare Ms. Nancy Bell Scott, I just got through gushing myself ( a few seconds ago) over at Ms. Pelati's Post. & now I have to get in the line behind you to repeat what you said already about Mister "Mudhead " Reynolds & DVS???? It's already a good day. Richard C.

Thank you, NBS. I can't say the Seer Spex aren't amazing. The pennies are encased in what seems like actual glass, although it might be plastic, but they are heavy. They make me think of the asemic glasses.

Well, send m-a to Mudhead and I'll bet you get an interesting response. I included his address at the end of the blog.

I'm about choking with envy over those seer specs. They're out-of-this-world incredible. Lucky you!
