you have summed up my entire life in one phrase DVS, and it inspires me to create something on this theme "not mainstream compatible in any way"

we talked about using this song, slightly edited to say "Smack my glitch up" but either itz realized it was probably in poor taste or he couldn't get the rights to it

I believe humor is the best delivery method so if trashpo always remains a parody and not a tragedy, then I am happy

good to see your comments RC. hope you received my greasy mail art

Thanks for posting my blurb, DK.

Richard, perhaps it is "deja vu all over again." I thought this re-packaging or re-positioning of DK (via her digital work) was brilliant through the presentation of the glitch art. I am very glad you are forthcoming with your point of view.

I think the point or my point or someone's point is that the featured artist is not Picasso or someone you'd expect, it's DK. And the whole feature does not attempt to present her as mainstream-compatible in any way. Everyone seems to agree she has tremendous talent. But the article addresses Trashpo (Jim Leftwich once wrote it is impossible to parody Trashpo because Trashpo is a parody of itself) and the fact that DK is the leader of an international cult. That, I think, took some courage and vision on the part of the editors. The thing that amazes me about the way Trashpo has evolved is that it challenges the status quo yet it's impossible to discern if it is "serious" or not. The scale never tips but remains in suspension. It took some thought by liketelevisionsnow about how to do the documentary.

So for me, the feature is significant on a number of levels and not more puff and fluff of someone whom someone has an investment in - artworld business-as-usual-stuff.

But I do appreciate the comments and different perspectives.

From her early Rauschenberg-like assemblages to her ‘Trashpo’ compositions of recent years (actually a form of visual poetry), Diane Keys has done striking work using found material and an anti-art sensibility. Indeed, this work has generated so much excitement that DKult chapters have formed in the international mail-art network(aka Eternal Network) making Keys a quasi-spiritual leader and Trashpo a transcendental practice for followers spread across the globe. Keys’ identity as a psychic and her willingness to expound on the relation between art and spirituality certainly helped inspire her followers and fans to create DKult. Keys’ message that unity and harmony are present in what are usually considered nihilistic modes, such as the post-avant and postmodern, resonates among artists. Her “D-Kompositions” serve as a model for art practice and living.

This issue of REDUX presents an important feature on a new direction in Diane Keys’ work: glitch art. While firmly in the realm of the digital and far from the gritty social realism of Trashpo, the two practices share important abstract elements such as found material, randomness principles and fragmentation. Keys has become an instant glitch master as the video by liketelevisionsnow makes evident. Sound and editing are superb, serving to enhance Keys’ work. (I view the piece as a successful collaboration.) Diane Keys and liketelevisionsnow open the gates and show the possibilities for glitch art, as yet barely explored. We have much to learn and much to gain by spending some time with their efforts.

excellent review DVS!
