Recebido de Sr. Cardoso, Portugal--Minimal Interiors

From the House of Paranormal Mail Art comes Eduardo's, "Minimal Interiors". He began with a photocopy of interior anatomy and added collage elements of the alphabet, the title, and images of 3-D objects. His signature red stamp contrasts nicely with the muted tone of the piece. Eduardo's mail art reminds me of Magritte's, "Treachery of Images--Ceci n'est pas une Pipe." This is not a Pipe.  Magritte's point was that it was an image of pipe, not a real one that you could fill, light, and smoke. Eduardo titled this piece "Minimal Interiors" which seemingly contradicts the image of the human body's interior--the circulatory system is a complex one! But of course, Eduardo's work is really a flat surface--2D--and there really is no blood flow. I find Eduardo's mail art really quite extraordinary and appreciate the twist he creates with his titles, asking people to adjust their thinking caps.

Yes--compelling and not at all minimal work. I do like art that brings thinking to a new level.

Hi Bifidus, Eduardo Cardoso's "Minimal Interiors" is indeed an amazing piece of mail-art. It's hardly minimal, although I understand completely what he's trying to achieve. The textures are the work of an artist for sure. Love your riff on Magritte. As fate would have it, or as you probably know, that pipe is an image often referenced in mail-art. You highlight all the underlying ideas in play about complexity vs. simplicity, concepts vs. a straightforward experiencing of whatever the artist's selects. This is just a total winner - I know Eduardo's vispo. This guy is smart, fun, yet very serious at the same time - thanks for sharing this wonderful piece.
