The day didn't start out to well. I had an appointment across town and went into the bicycle shed only to find a flat tire on my bike.
Knowing I would now have to take the metro, I hurried out the door stopping only by the mailbox to collect the mail. I then ran to the metro station.
The sign said, 3 minutes before the next train. I started to look through the mail. “What have we here?”, I thought to myself.
OH Dear, someone like me. The name is different, but the idea is the same. I call these things; MailArt Omens. And when they happen to you, you have to use whatever you find in the next MailArt piece you make. Mathom-House calls them a phenomenon.
So here I stand on the Platform of the metro with 3 minutes before the next train, and what do I see in front of me, yes, you guessed it, a vending machine. I looked in the window of the machine, and sure enough, it had Twix bars. Should I, or shouldn't I? But this must be a sign from the MailArt Omens. I dig in my bag, 20 cents, 50 cents, only need 50 cents more. And then at the very bottom of my bag, a one euro piece.
I put the money in quickly, one minute before the train arrived. "Now how does this machine work?", I thought. OH yes, I need to match up the Twix number with the code and enter the code. Let me see, ah, number seven. Another good sign as this is not only a Lucky number, but also the house number of Mathom-House. The train pulls into the station, I press the button, nothing happens. Wait, the winding thing starts to turn. I wait with my mouth open just knowing that I would also get two instead of one. It just has to happen. All the MailArt Omen signs were there.
The winding thing kept turning, one Twix bar drops in the basket below. The winding thing kept turning, yes, yes, yes. I just knew it. Then it suddenly stopped. OH No, only one. I put my hand in the little door at the bottom of the machine to get out my Twix, I then heard a buzzer. I turned my head just in time to see the doors close on the train. OH No, I missed my train.
I looked at the sign, "Next train in 5 minutes." I took a seat, opened the Twix package, ate both fingers, and thought; "It's going to be a good day afterall."
Thank you Mathom-House. My next MailArt Omen is for you.
