Lucky me, I received a bright yellow envelope from Marie with wonderful things inside to delight my senses!
Loved the graphics on the outside of the envelope...the back had artworks with collaged orange fruits to announce the MinXus Solar Festival 2012. They looked like little tarot cards to me... the three of pentacles and the six of pentacles (?) perhaps.
Treats inside included paper clippings... one in Japanese and censored English. Unless one considers that the words weren't so much taken out, as they were holes added by some secret operative of the Society of Holism...
And a charming page from a young adult book/story about Peter the Daydreamer and his comedic foibles...
And most wonderful of all was some of Marie's amazing photographic art... it really is some fancy darkroom magic, I think. The composition is fabulous... the closeup image of some delicate embroidered object--a pillow or a slipper--that is singed in spots, sitting on a surface of polished marble countertop. Superimposed upon this image are paint rings--like the imprint of a wine glass rim left on a table--and also a strip of photo negative depicting stylized fish. The images in the negative are facinating themselves, but the negative does a trick to the original photo below it... it turns some of the peach color of the embroidery into a brilliant blue. It's just lovely overall...
The photo is afixed to another newspaper clipping, this one with visually amusing photos on the back... one depicting a group of people emptying water from a boat near the shore; and another photo of dancers (?) in traditional garb lying on their backs on the ground like inverted turtles... Visually confounding, perplexing, astonishing, and enthralling all at once...
The oddity of juxtaposition of the pictures could be merely my ignorance of cultural differences... or it could be a depiction of the actualization of the poem inverted and captioning the photos:
As always with Marie's mail art gifts, this was a postal experience in which to revel and let the imagination dream! Such a present, Marie... thank you.
I would bet that our mail crossed paths on their journies, because I dropped something at the post office for you earlier this past week. So look out!

GREAT blog :-) - that photograph is certainly a visual addiction :-) X
Thom, I was going to ask if you had knitted this fantastic vest? I think Marie dumped him because he was able to crack the code and find her real number using a complex set of algorithms
Well, you know what they say... "Better to have loved and lost [the connection], than to never have texted at all..." (I think that's what they say... is that right??)
Awesome sweater vest, Brian!!!

This is what it said. Even more confused than before
I've been putting off decoding my fortune as I am afraid of what it will say. The solar festival will be just the thing I need to shed light on What Is Minxus?
