What is Holism? A Response to Rebecca Guyver (Suffolk UK)
Mail-art by IUOMA Rebecca Guyver (Suffolk UK)
Rebecca Guyver recently sent some visual poetry and a query about Holism.
For Rebecca and those who might want to contribute work to The First International Exhibition of Holes, here is the first Holism Manifesto:
MinXus-Lynxus Holism Manifesto.
This should explain the pataphysics. Yet our dear friend History often provides the most comprehensive explanations.
Holism commenced, it is generally agreed, with De Villo Sloan’s (my) contribution to The Crimson Giant, a collaborative book that includes work by Cheryl Penn (South Africa) and Empress Marie that appeared in 2010:

While this work indeed does provide a prototype for what today is widely known as Holism, we must acknowledge its crudity. The work expresses a temporary but what was nevertheless a heartfelt annoyance with Miss Cheryl brought on by the pressures of that particular endeavour. Hardly a work for the Ages.
It was our own Empress Marie Antonette who brought aesthetics to Holism then mounted it as if it were a stallion and rode it to the pinnacle of refinement and taste where it now contentedly resides.
Shortly after the publication of The Crimson Giant, Empress Marie began to display her holes to the public. While many excellent works of Holism have been produced since, it is widely acknowledges that Empress Marie’s holes are unparalleled. Here is one oft-cited example of her early work:
Mail-art by IUOMA member Marie Wintzer (Saitama, Japan)
You will note this work appears in the Holism Manifesto and has already generated a vast commentary. Many have pondered what motivated her choice of size for this seminal piece.
The study of Holism is called Hology, and there is a visual poetry book dedicated to the subject:

The artist is encouraged to include holes in any work that is created. It is hoped that as the artist progresses on the path of Holism, the holes will grow larger & become the dominant element. Eventually, the hole – emptiness – will replace the art itself.
E - The Ambassador of Utopia (Guivry, France) Issues MinXus Stamps
Mail-art by IUOMA member E – The Ambassador of Utopia (Guivry, France)
The Eternal Network has been abuzz with news of the return of the great French mail-artist E and his ringing endorsement of MinXus-Lynxus. I am thrilled to have recently received work in the spirit of MinXus-Lynxus from E. Here is the reverse side:
All of The Ambassador's MinXus stamps are officially endorsed by MinXus-Lynxus:
Rare "muzzled mink" MinXus stamps by E - The Ambassador of Utopia
MinXus-Lynxus views this as only the beginning of a beautiful relationship with the distinguished Ambassador of Utopia (if only we could now have an Ambassador from Venus!). Thank you E! .
E manages a network of interesting blogs that encompass his various projects and interests:

Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland) Correspondence with the Mink Rancher
Mail-art by IUOMA member Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland)
Carina Granlund is a consistent and always welcomed MinXus-Lynxus correspondent. She has already sent much wonderful material that resides in the permanent archives and even participated in the refrigerator performance. Recently, I received (above) this beautiful, sunny work from Carina with a great quote. She also sent a message to the mythic Mink Rancher:
Mail-art/correspondence art by Carina Granlund
Dear Mink Rancher,
Glad to hear from you – sad to hear about the dry creek though. Hope the minks still are alive? When my father was a young man his dream was to be a mink rancher. It did not happen.
- Carina
A response will soon be on its way to Carina, along with the customary free gift from the Mink Ranch Gift Shop.
Here's an example of a Mink Ranch postcard (autographed by the Mink Rancher) sent in response to MinXus mail-art:
Many thanks Carina. And make sure to visit:

MinXus Down Under by Vizma Bruns (Waitpinga, South Australia)
MinXus-Lynxus mail-art by IUOMA member Vizma Bruns (Waitpinga, South Australia)
While Vizma Brun's work is eclectic, one cannot even think of the word "MinXus" without conjuring accompanying images of Vizma Bruns. Vizma Bruns is becoming synonymous with MinXus. And this recent mail-art she sent me literally knocked my socks off in terms of exciting new directions for MinXus.

Of great interest are local newspaper clippings from Waitpinga that provide some ranching tips. We also are able to catch up on current events in our favourite British colony:
A new but well-received artist in the Eternal Network, Miss Vizma has some tremendous stamps and decorates her envelopes with great adeptness:
Y'all come back now! And please send your work to the First International Exhibition of Holes. And don't miss:

Marie.......Superbe MUG !!!!! Il m'en faut un !!!!
I think many Trashpo installations are found or occur by chance. DK would know for sure.
That Trashpo installation could also serve as a Mink House. You had better send to the ranch.
Oh yes, Hole Tell :) Very nice. Marie, Dean, Vizma!
Thanks DVS, the trashpo hole installation is from my surroundings, no artificial..
Hole Tell?
Carina - that Trashpo installation is my favorite hole ever.
