I know many interpret this as the Godness Pensive Athena mourning those who fell in 460BC, other say she is standing at a boundary stone for Athenas' sanctuary. The most realistic version is that she is trying to pry that marble stone out of the ground to take it home and make a marble sink out of it for her bathroom.
