Extract from today's Sunday Times: Antarctica’s 23-year-old postmaster on sorting mail at the end of the Earth

Clare Ballantyne grew up in Louth, Lincolnshire, and graduated from Oxford University with a master’s degree in Earth sciences in 2022. In June she and three others were selected from 4,000 applicants to travel to Port Lockroy on the remote Goudier Island in the Antarctic Peninsula. The UK’s most southerly public post office — known affectionately as the Penguin Post Office — is operated by the charity UK Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT). Ballantyne’s job entails processing postcards sent by an estimated 18,000 tourists visiting the island annually as well as monitoring the effects of climate change on its penguin population.

Hi MomKat!

I don't think a more detaimled postal address is necessary as there soesn't seem to be many other buildings -- let alone a post office or a postperson -- there.

Mail Art to Clare -- she's coming home in April with the rest of the team, but look at the UKAHT site and you'll see that they are recruiting replacements.

So you could replace her!

And we could send you Mail Art.

Ha!

18,000 postcards that tourists send out from Port Lockroy,

so it is a good time for Clare Ballantyne to begin to receive mail art postcards!

I am ready to send mail art to Antarctica!

Is there a postal code and more detailed mailing address:
