Nancy's work was some of the first I noticed when I joined iuoma. As I said to her long ago, something about her particular creative voice has a rather untoward sonority for me... Color often speaks to me more eloquently than any other element of the visual, and her mastery...
it simply takes my breath away..... Her work speaks much more than colour to me of course. There is magic in her textural sensibility to myriad materials, the movement of shapes, the detailed consideration of every element of each composition - it's uncanny the way it moves & touches me. The depth...That's all I can say: The Depth. It goes straight to my heart, (everything shivery...) - I simply
swoon!
Simply: stunning. So very, very luscious - the sensuality, her touch so distinct & rich...
I truly thank you from my depths for this Nancy - I do I do I do!!!
(PLEASE NOTE: I think I made some mistakes in the scanning order, but it's packed away now so corrections will have to wait a few months till I'm unpacked...)

great to see you NBS--your fancy and Nancy-ness has been missed. You are a bright presence around here and I'm glad to know you haven't gotten lost in the IOUMA black hole!! Have a good thanksgiving:)

Almost missed this and am so glad I didn't. Such a nice blog in every way, Claire, thank you very much--your enthusiasm is inspiring. Yes, this was made in September, and then there has mostly been a dry spell. Bit by bit I am now sending out envelopes that are smallish and very skinny. You could even call them anorexic, poor things! Just trying to get back on the road, gradually. Thanks too for great comments below from Erni, Rebecca, Suus, Katerina, taidgh, DVS, Dean, Alicia, Thom, Diane, Jane, Marie, Susan, David, Carina. You're all an inspiration. And what is there to be that's better than that?
Wonderful wonderful texture!
Tour de force....
So nice to see our Fancy Bell's work again. Superb!
Dreamy....love it.
Ah, it seems that I am far from the only one to whom her work speaks so eloquently & deeply... %_^ Great comments!
@Katerina: I utterly agree! And there is something in the creative process too, in the sensual element of it that simply can't be honed by the virtual. Since I moved to Pittsburgh I haven't had a studio (metalsmith), and until I discovered iuoma late last Feb., I had done nothing but digital art for over a decade! Getting my hands dirty again has been sheer frigging heaven! (The Experiencial baby!)
(I received this quite a few months ago, but only just got around to blogging...)
Experiencing Nancy's work is like sitting by a warm fire drinking it all in-comforting and complex at the same time. I have missed seeing hers so thanks for this blog Claire. So glad I stopped in today--very inspiring.
Another stunner from Nancy... Love how she uses historical archival material and makes it even more facinating with her own artistic commentary. It's kind of the opposite of literary deconstruction, and it's up to the viewer to decide if the brushestrokes, dribbles (LOVE the dribbles), pen marks, layering, and binding say something -- an additional layer of beautiful silt in the history of the paper.
NICELY put, Alicia: "Painterly and poetic on the corner of trashpo." That's poetry itself.
