I don't know if Carien knows - I guess she doesn't- but I am fascinated with old techniques of producing beautiful fabrics, like dying. So in her latest card of Japanese ladies I immediately noticed that the artist that painted one of the ladies gave her a dress clearly dyed with a technique called Bandhani in India (I think Shibori in Japanese). It is made by binding parts of the cloth with strings or knots to prevent them from getting dyed and creating patterns that way. The patterns can be very complex, including figural motives. Here you can find more information on the technique: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandhani

I didn't know that, Sabrina. Thank you for the information. I'm fond of fabrics, so I find it very interesting to know.
