Erni Bar : Gunning for a gunny sack (Jute-Sack) and a pick up

A Jute-sack?  In my day we use to call them gunny sacks.  And a pick up wasn't a candy bar!  How things have changed in the art world!

Well when I was a child, we use to have a sack like this to store the potatoes.  So as a performance piece I ran out to the market and purchased some very nice potatoes.  I then put the potatoes in the sack, and that is where I will keep my potatoes from now on.

Thank you Erni, very useful Mail Art.

PS: Don't pay any attention to those guys in the photo.  They are always acting up.  To keep them quiet, I told them that they will be having butter and sour cream for dinner.

More information from my research:

A gunny sack is an inexpensive bag made of burlap, also known as a 'gunny shoe'. Gunny sacks are traditionally used for transporting grains, potatoes, and other agricultural products. Today they are also sometimes used as sandbags for erosion control. They are usually made from jute or other natural fibers, although modern sacks are often made from polypropylene. Gunny sacks are also popular in the traditional children's game of sack racing.

A gunny sack holds approximately 100 pounds of potatoes. Even though gunny sacks are no longer used for that purpose, among Idaho farmers the common measurement unit of potatoes is still the "sack".

Dean, you ARE art!! Those googly-eyed spuds are a hoot! I'm surprised you didn't add a sack pick up line, you must've thought better of it, so I won't either!!

How funny--I may be afraid to eat potatoes from now on--which will be terrible since I'm Irish!   mmmmm Indian food=-=my favorite. I don't think Erni is trying to Pick Up on you, but perhaps one of the Erni girls is?
