Enchanted with Mail Art by David Stafford (Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA)

David - 9.16.2015-1

Mail art by IUOMA member David Stafford (Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA)

September 16, 2015 - This great piece by reigning mail art satirist David Stafford graces my humble blog today. The visual image on the front of this conventional, postcard-size work is bound to please. The reverse side offers commentary on the contemporary artworld/market:

David-9.16.2015-2

Mail art is extremely diverse and individualistic. However, I venture to propose here that a general tendency I see in the current network is toward sincerity and even seriousness. Irony is not prevalent let alone barbed political or cultural commentary. This situation contributes to David Stafford’s seeming monopolization of a niche that clearly has widespread appeal. (Richard Canard sometimes occupies this space as well.) David Stafford's facility with both words and images further solidifies his position. I can only stand back and marvel at the evolution of his work.

As ever, many thanks to David Stafford!

What is T.O.X.I.S. anyway?

I am fully prepared to accept the consequences....

Thanks David. Actually I remember the Vicki Morgan story in the media. The m-a is great, but digging into the great T.O.X.I.S. conspiracy might not go well for you.

Thank you, once again, Mr. Sloan. Vicki Morgan was Alfred Bloomingdale's mistress in "so-called" real life. Bloomingdale was into S&M and according to Morgan's lawyer, she had kinky sex tapes of people in the Reagan administration. Next thing you know she winds up dead. (Use Mickey Spillane voice here). I've always wondered about that murder. (Use my regular voice here). (Or, I guess you could use your own voice if you wish). (I think we have enough voices for a choir).
