These two cards, from very different moments in David's life, are just the tip of the iceberg:
But they say a lot, don't they? This is our worried, funny, and enchanting David. He can worry about worrying, but he can also enjoy a flight to Las Vegas that has "a group of bubbly low-rollers, effervescent even at 7 a.m." onboard. He expresses so well the ambivalence he lives with: "Have you been to Vegas? It's genuinely horrid but it does exude a particular kind of American spectacle, an excellent place for melancholy rumination about the demise of the planet...." When the worried-beaver/worried-song card arrived, I had some advice for Dave, which I wrote to him. But now I don't recall what it was, and from the tone of a recent blog of his, he doesn't either. We'll keep trying.
All the pictures he did of things like Maine's unofficial state bird (seagull) and unofficial state color (sand) are TRUE, but my favorite might be his rendering of the actual teased hair of a fellow traveler on the plane. As for the "irritable aquarium day stamp," does that really say "irritable"? Not positive. But if so, I can't be the only one who would like to hear the story behind it.
Thanks very much, Dave ... It's *always* great to hear from you ...

A Hairdressers Convention. How perfect is that? Can't beat it.
Well, they were certainly more entertaining than the usual early morning Vegas crowd. Fully pierced and ready to party.
As it turns out....the low rollers were going to a Hairdressers Convention. I kid you not.
KDJ: of course, steal it all outright for the group. Or I can repost the scans. Don't know how to transfer a whole blog. Do you?
The hairdo thing does take over for him, doesn't it. The one on the second card is something I've never seen. Looks like it could consist of a turban and some unlucky animal's tail. Maybe Dave would welcome photos of, oh my, never mind.
Yes SkyB, I know exactly what you mean. The human condition is always in there, different aspects of it every time ...
