Why am I doing this correspondence art thing? I'm not going to write out my entire life story, but I will hit some highlights.
When I was a younger man, I occasionally gave art away to friends. Somewhere along the way I stopped doing that.
I went to a design school for my undergraduate and became extremely uptight about keeping work in pristine condition... the idea of putting an unprotected postcard with art on it in the mail would've been horrifying a couple years ago.
I then came to graduate school for fine art and became so focused on large projects that I stopped working in a sketchbook and doing small works.
I am doing graduate school in a pretty isolated area, so meeting new artists can require a trip and a lot of gas money.
I am an older student who only recently embraced technology. While it is amazing all the things we can do with the computer, I still like making things by hand.
About 9 months ago, I saw the Ray Johnson Exhibition at Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center in Asheville, NC. Not long after that I became an intern there.
Last fall a friend of mine was doing an artist residency in Finland. I was sending the occasional postcard, but I ran out of things to say. So, I sent a drawing instead. Not long after, I started sending drawings on postcards to other friends.
Now I am interested in the idea of sending art to strangers, especially artists who do likewise. I am interested in this free exchange of work and all the ideas that that entails.

19.02.16 Dare Paul F., ...it all sounds perfectly natural to me.... All best to you. Sincelery, Richard C. Post Scriptum: As I recall, "Cullowhee" comes from the Cherokee which means "Valley of the Lily" & or "Green Salad". ...Have you come across that one?
