So beautiful comes the Art-of-the-ENVELOPE from Marie, that one hates to open it!

Blossoms and colors, postage stamps and Japanese calligraphy abound, and one knows it is from Marie!

I always carefully slice the sides of the envelope from Marie

and spread it open, as it is an art piece all its own.

Even the inside ads for furniture, screens, a-walk-amongst-the-blossoms... are artistic!

Okay, that was just the ENVELOPE...now, the treasure within:

Three-piece beauty that speaks of distant lands and unknown language.

Threads are whispy and gentlely flowing...

It is soooo SPRING!

" the sight of a reason...(or this season?)

the same sight slighter,

the sight of a simple

negative answer,

the same sore sounder,

the intention of wishing,

the same splender,the same furniture..."

and even the flip sides are fascinating:

It is meant to be hanging ...perhaps in the Greek Spring breeze on my balcony,

or out at the seaside shack..and let the threads and good spirits  flow...

I have just finished reading it and it is definitely one of my favorite books ever. I will read it many more times. The problem is now I want to use it for everything :-)))

The letters are indeed of different sizes, because I change the font size and "boldness" (don't know how to call it) of them in a semi-random way.  Fingers hurt! :-))

Thanks for the blog, Kat. I'm w/everyone that it is a great Marie package - I have been reading the Tender Buttons passage all day. It makes a perfect poem and I'm with you too that the last line about the furniture just brings wonderful closure. Stein fits in so well with Marie's work because it's not linear and it might be hard to explain rationally yet it communicates and expresses such subtle things and ideas. Why do the letters seem to be of different sizes? I think that is so interesting.

Marie - you should take the leap and try writing your own version of what Gertrude Stein showed us we can do with language - Tender Buttons is sort of an opening of the field not unlike similar breakthroughs by people like Picasso and Pollock - they are far, far from being exhausted

Wow, thank you my genkis! Such lovely comments, and such a great blog Katerina, with SO many pictures! Glad you like it. The poem is from Tender Buttons, the pictures are mine, and the envelope... when I see leaflets announcing exhibitions or events downtown I always take a few to make envelopes. Because I'm not so good at decorating my own ones, so it's very convenient. Arigatooo!!

Truly a gem! i have spent the evening going through many folders of mail art

and collected older mailings from Marie...will have to photo them. what an amazing
