"Birdwatching with Antonin Artaud" by meeah Williams (Brooklyn, New York, USA) & collage by Michael Orr (Clarkston, Georgia, USA)

Mail-art by IUOMA member meeah Williams (Brooklyn, New York, USA)

October 1, 2013 - In August, meeah Williams sent me this wonderful package of mail-art that, at long last, I am thrilled to be able to share with you.  I am a huge Antonin Artaud fan, so meeah's boekie, "Birdwatching with Antonin Artaud," is greatly appreciated. Here are the panels:

Throughout the package, meeah Williams incorporates found material, cut-ups, asemics and (disrupted) visual narrative.

meeah also included a wonderfully done, recycled cd or dvd:

meeah certainly showcases her mastery of Trashpo in this outstanding piece.

Also included is this asemic-vispo page that might be an add-and-pass.

Here is a closer-in scan:

A little W.S. Burroughs paranoia is evident in the virus piece. The envelope is also a masterpiece:

meeah - 9.30 - 8

And the reverse:

meeah - 9.30 - 9

Deepest thanks to Mink Ranch fav, meeah Williams!

Mail-art by IUOMA member Michael Orr (Clarkston, Georgia, USA)

Michael Orr is a fantastic correspondence artist known for his collage and, increasingly, visual poetry. He is producing fabulous collabs with numerous artists. I am thrilled to share this second batch of mail-art by Michael received during the summer.

This custom-made piece for DVS (D-Vi-Sol) is a treasure of MinXus indeed. Michael Orr also included another piece:

An interesting retro work that appears to be an add & pass. On the other side:

Here is Michael Orr's envelope from sunny Georgia:

Orr - 9.30 - 5

Reverse:

Orr - 9.30 - 6

Many thanks to Michael and looking forward to the Zalop show!

Easy for me to say, Michael, but I bet you'll do great. A lot of people were involved in the Zalop "movement" circa 2012. There are 71 people in the IUOMA Zalop group alone:

With all the Zalop scores, there is definitely a performance component too. Zalopians just need to keep spreading the word.

Thanks DVS. I'm excited too. I'm also terribly nervous about many things though. This is not something I've done before. Though the Venue is very a very popular one, it is still an alternative space and the perfect place for a mail art show. I would not want to host this anywhere else in the city. i'm still freaking out though, mostly about getting enough people to participate. if i had a little longer to promote it might not be so bad, but 3 months is a short time.

Thx for that personalized mail-art, Michael. Now that's Michael of M&M - the unstoppable duo of meeah & Michael, as this second blog of your work has proven.

Now I am just pleased as punch about this Zalop show in Atlanta. It was Here at IUOMA-Ning that Zalop went global, even though the current excitement seems to be centered at IUOMA-FB.

Zalop was a Fluxus word Ruud Janssen gave to Cheryl Penn, as I recall. Cheryl wrote her concerto. Eduardo Cardoso did his Zalop video & it went on from there. I bet most mail-artists recognize it today.

So a Zalop event, wow. I think there is an IUOMA Zalop group. And of course the original blog:

Hi meeah & many thanks again. Your work certainly fits the M-L theme.

Rebecca, if you'll recall a previous blog double-billing meeah & Pone was a smash. Their art goes together like Sonny & Cher, like Elvis & Costello, like peanut butter & mayonnaise, like war & peace, like Artaud & birdwatching.

Fabulous stuff! Meeah's mail art is like her writing, her mind? playful, exacting and rambling all at the same time! Love it. And I've been a fan of Cornpone since my 365 days! Great to see both!
