The top photo is of this great crumbly package from Katerina, containing some of the most beautiful crumbly type of rust I've had the good fortune to own. It will be used in mail art, no question, and it arrived with this big THANK YOU paper that looks like it may have come from an auto maintenance place. But I'm not sure. I told Katerina that I hope this rust she sent me did not come from her car, but the answer isn't known yet.
The rust sent by Svenja on a card (with swimmers on it, of course) is literally paper thin. In fact, is it paper? To the touch, it seems to be not of this earth. It is lovely stuff. And with it the scan also shows how mail art REALLY first came to be. Looks like Ray Johnson will have to take a backseat. Svenja The Wise Explorer knows best!
Many thanks again to Katerina and Svenja ~

Who would have thought rust makes for such great mail art!
OMG, no, they don't rust in Greece. Ignorant question from Maine, where everything rusts--if it's good enough, haha. What a great floor mat they give you. The green wood is an old barn door that an antiquing buddy used for the bed of his pickup truck. I begged for it, he gave it to me, and Phil made a table out of it for the studio space. I'm typing on it right now! I'm glad you appreciate it as much as I do, Katerina. I really love it.
So glad to have beautiful rust from Halkidiki Beach! Oh yes, broken up is best for mail art. Larger intact pieces, like ones Erni has sent and others I have collected, are for sculptural pieces when I get there. :--}
Nancy, that beautiful green weathered wood...is it your porch? a table?
It is great...color and texture!
The cars in Greece do not rust :-) My VW is just fine, and yes, it did go in for service and
the paper THANK YOU was the floor mat. I needed "Printed Matter" to get the rust through "contents" declaration! The rust was found on the beach near my seaside shack.
From Halkidiki Beach to Old Orchard Beach!!!
It did break up a bit through the post...but maybe that will be better for mail art?
Glad you like it, NBS! xxx
