A wonderful surprise to find this in my mailbox recently. One of my favourite pieces of mail. I love how the envelope is painted to emulate an air mail envelope. Inside things were just as wondrous with these fantastic artistamps.

I do, too, because it makes each envelope an original. And using unusual colors is highly original. Really great work.

i like the stodgy bits. it's like how i appreciate printing imperfections on various older printed materials, or scratches on film, etc.

It's hardly an original design, but it is interesting to see it in different colours instead of the boring old red white and blue.

Thanks for the info, Alan, your painted airmail border envelopes are fantastic, and actually the inspiration for the chevrons I've printed on some recently sent envelopes.

The border was stencilled on the paper before folding into an envelope (the splodgy bits are where the paint went under the stencil edge)

Even more impressive is that the airmail border is also painted (or is it printed?) on the back as well.
