A visual-textual narrative of Marie Antoinette's fate by Janine Weiss (Neuchatel, Switzerland)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Janine Weiss (Neuchatel, Switzerland)

March 6, 2014 - Janine Weiss sent me this wonderful collage based on the narrative of Marie Antoinette's life. This mail-art has been entered in the MinXus-Lynxus Who Has The Best Hair Contest. Thematically, this is a wonderfully cohesive work, even the torn shreds reflect the tragic tale.

This relatively large piece, approximately twice the size of a regular postcard, is stapled together in layers, which I have partially disassembled for better views. MinXus-Lynxus mythology draws heavily from the era of the French Revolution, and Janine Weiss was surely aware of this when she created the piece. Empress Marie Antonette (misspelling intentional) aka Marie Wintzer is, indeed, the contest judge. Janine Weiss provides a stirring image of circumstances related to the Reign of Terror:

Envelopes from Janine Weiss are very distinctive and creative:

Deepest thanks to Janine Weiss for this very special work!

Thx, Gin. Clearly there is interest in this beyond you and me, although I'm a bit perplexed about who the Cher Jan fans and are. Certainly, there are many.

Folks might wonder why we have Marie Antoinette here and Marie Antonette judging the hair contest (in which this is entered). It might just have something to do with Grigori Anton-in or Grigori Antonin Artaud, as he is known in France.
