A Blog post for John Bennett "Bedroom Fold"

Mail Art Received Last Week of February 2011

I dont know how Onward John knows he sent an avid insomniac a package of sleeplessness. But he did. Never mind all the Vispo theory attached to John's work, it struck a chord.

All the lucky ones who have received a John package know how full they are :-). My favorite:

Take that how you like. I know I did.

Yes, how familiar. Words folded within covers. Turn toss. Begin Again. Breathe. Forget too. Sometimes it all just feels the same. Folded within. Strangling sheets.  Begin Again.

Words under cover.

Thanks John :-)

“poesia es visual

All poetry is visual
Tuda poesia e visual” John Bennett.

Ok - I'm out of my depth here - you'll have to refer to the blogs of writers who are knowledgeable on this subject like De Villo Sloan to gain any in-depth discussion on Vispo.

The ever evolving forms of vispo are clearly indicated in the selection of booklets sent by John.  The integration of image and word which has its roots in Concrete Poetry.

This work visually reminds of book artists such as Filippo Marinetti (Zang Tumb Tuuum -1914) - works which reveal the rethinking of existing forms to serve new ends.

This is a collaboration between Rea Nikonova and John "Ondine".  I have often asked the question about the resultant differences in work when vispo is approached by a visual artist or by a poet.   Collaboration is excellent in this regard.

And this between John and Lancillotto Bellini another IUOMA member.

As a book artist I find this structure interesting where one has to physically interact with the medium (the page) in order to access the words - only by peeking and handing the 'book' in an unusual way does one get to the 'throat'.

Thanks John, with another IUOMA friend I am attempling to become more engaged in this art form - all this is very inspirational.

I end with lines from John's "O Fortuna"

"A good memory, Abort, Retry, forget the"

"If you look   can or you cant,   going you are right"

"The important be reached very stop soon"

"Look forward of patience is worth  and  a new bushel of brains :-) "

My favorite:

Even in the Critical point

   is an open last push"

On the other side of Dark Wall there must be light...

The SpellChick has struck again! :-))

This is great mail, the first two really look like sleepyheads after a night of insomnia

There is always aonther walking beside you...

hi Cheryl

all this looks great and thanks for the comments.  actually those little booklets (the technical term is TLP, or "Tacky Little Pamphlets) are released like the books I used to read in my youth from Spain and Latin America: unopened, so you sit there with knife in hand and cut the pages open as you read.  Adds little tactility and spice to the experience.
