From the overhead view, the crocodile has a pointy nose, the alligator a rounded one. The way we remember it at our house is that Alligator starts with a pointy letter and has rounded nose, and Crocodile has a rounded first letter and a pointy nose. But they all bite and are not friends to people.

I have come across hand-draw British envelopes from as early as 1860.

And our American friends think that Ray Johnson invented Mail Art almost a century later? No way!
