My trip to locate the site of the actual Spindletop oil gusher: there is a fake site a mile north of the actual site at a local college. The real site, there is a plaque, is somewhat hidden behind a No Tresspassing sign, with no markers from the road. You basically have to look up the lat. and long. and track it down.

I think the college has an oil drilling degree, and probably the college was founded with oil money. It was weird that the real site was so hidden.

Strange. A nice story too. I wonder why they'd go to the trouble to build a fake sight (and at a college)?
