There you are, Thom -- not climbing a mountain in the Northwest today? It would be a good thing for someone besides me to do here today.  It's only 99 degrees, AGAIN.  Thank you so much, Thom, glad you like the piece.  I'm sorry to hear the crow is the Vermont state bird, I had no idea.  There are enough of them here to claim state birdship, and they love to scream at 4 a.m., waking up all the tiny neighborhoods; plus in our area between here and the sea, they claim the whole territory from spring to fall.  Gulls twice their size are terrified of them and after being pushed out of the sky a few times stay away. (We have a nice gull population out back in the winter.)  That may mean that gulls are even smarter than they sometimes seem.  You may or may not know that the Maine state bird is the chickadee, one of the least aggressive birds you'll see anywhere. I mean, they can't even stay at the feeder and hack open the sunflower shell -- they take them, one at a time, to a branch and chip them open quite laboriously. They don't seem to mind that other feeder birds don't have to work nearly that hard. Well okay, then!  Nice to see you on board, and I'll be sending you a letter and a non-OOB/BOO/BOOB work of art very soon.

De Villo, if you have any especially enlightening reading to recommend about the history of asemic writing (for newish people!), and the part it has played in mail art, I'd be glad to know it.

As they say: "It sells itself." I wanted to clarify the eternal network has been a huge friend to things like vispo and asemic writing since the beginning. Mail-art has kept this little hybrid area of literature going really. Many of the best are here at IUOMA as well as those emerging. It's nice having so many new people discover this part of mail-art.

Asemic writing has been a great discovery for many of us, Theresa. With these wonderful books - it was Cheryl's idea to launch those projects, I was like: "I don't know. Asemic writing is cool, but the audience is so tiny. I don't think mail-artists would really be interested..." And IUOMA folks are breathing new life into it, I think. It's not a joke saying it's not aNemic writing anymore.

Theresa, beware of Dark wall. He's incorrigible. I imagine it's another ploy. If he asks you to mail him one of your old shoes (with asemic writing on it?), don't do it.

asemic writing has saved me from being the foot-worshipping social parasite I once was. Now my life has purpose.

That's the strange thing, I don't think I have been living without asemic writing -- just didn't know what it was.  It, or its possibility, has been showing up not only in earlier stages of artwork but also in ways I think, even in writing for meaning, in what speaks to me in others' art, you name it.  But as a conscious focus, yes, this is new, and exhilarating, and soon my life will probably be viewed as B.A. and A.A.  Too bad those abbreviations are already taken!

Nancy, it arrived! I have it. I love it. Thank you

And that is mutual, Catherine.  I'll look forward to it, but don't rush.  One of the many great things about mail art is, just between individuals, no deadlines!  There is always time.

Thank you, Catherine ~ apparently it is lying dead in some post office, strangled by a machine; as far as I know it never arrived.

On a happier note, I sent you something yesterday, Catherine, and it's in an envelope!
