Diane--Thank you for your medieval mail art, really like the sewn collage technique that you used. It has been added to my IUOMA photo stream and will be blogged soon at
Thanks Diane, "Hard to see underwater" arrived today ...while the rain should finally get here this week! California in severe drought alert will be happy by a little blindness ;-)
Growing Up Catholic. Too funny. I, for one, did not "grow-up Catholic" nor any other system of guilt ridden system ;]
However, for several years I was an acolyte in a protestant church. I think I just liked being so because I got to control the lighting of the candles, you know, walking through the church with a wick of live fire. Quite a responsibility to an adolescent mind.
However, I did grow-up with many Catholics who went to Catholic School and got to see first hand the mind bending influence of "The Church."
Thank you for the card. I'm still waiting to hear things Nuns say [that I didn't already hear on a Cheech & Chong album].
Yes, my wife "grew-up Catholic" but is not currently a practicing Catholic. However, I've never heard her say she s a recovering Catholic.
We had a few Catholic schools where I grew up and some of my friends attended them. Two girls in particular, attended the girls only Catholic School down the street. I always assumed that they were missing out on public school because that's where most all the other kids in the neighborhood went. (From a child's viewpoint) why would you want to go to a Catholic School everyday? Wasn't Sunday school enough? My Jewish friends went to Hebrew class on the weekends, my Buddhist friends went to Temple Class on the weekends . . . my Mormon friends, well, I had no idea what they did.
What made those Catholics be so persistent on having their own full-time school. It was a mystery to me.
DK thank you so much for your recent mail art....I will certainly participate in your add and returns...so nice to hear from you...will blog soon....hugs <3
Got a Bad Burlesque prize book today from our esteemed judge Vizma!!!! Looks like I won third place for my sparkly g-string. So who won first place, and did we need to pay to win first place? The prize is great--risque and very burlesque.
Aha - so you are watching the OPT ( Oscar Pistorious Trial) ! We say M'lady or M'lord cos of our British colonial history. We ditched the jury system but most of the rest of our procedural law is British based. Substantive law is Roman-Dutch though - bit confusing! Guess what my job is??
Yes- it's all about the judge: she's the most nb person in the room. She's so dignified and full of gravitas - I feel quite proud of her as our representative of the judiciary on the international stage! I'm a law lecturer - I still practice a bit too. I must say I love the law despite its bad rep for boringness. I find it endlessly interesting! I'd like to do that collage collab - thanks.
Mostly labour law.and I also teach evidence - hence my huge interest in the OPT! I don't know Nancy - but I am a total legal drama series addict! Have a great weekend and I look forward to the peace!
Diane thanks for the the original MA you sent. I like it very much and what a nice surprise from you!!!!! The weather here has warmed up. Still a little chillyhere but the snow has melted. That in itself is a joy considering the amount that was on the ground. Will work on something for you soon.
Diane, the google thang arrived. Interesting concept...I like it but it made me nervous. "What if my year in the joint turns up? Those restraining orders...the plaid speedo pics..." I'm going to write a song for Jon Foster's Sonic Mail Art Call..."Don't Google Me." Blog ETA: 2030....
I've been trying to tell google who I am but I am fudging the details. I remove all my bad qualities. My online persona is sort of an idealized version of who I am. I leave out the icky parts. I put in the doubts but leave out the cowardice. I put in the self-hatred and leave out the fear. It's sort of like I'm a character in a 50s sitcom. Ozzie Nelson with some warts for realism but not that many and heavily airbrushed. It's an odd dance.
I never fully understood the tragedy of postal workers dumping mail until I became a mail artist. Now I think its catastrophic! ...but still unlikely. You have a great weekend too - we have a public holiday on Monday - so its a nice long one for me!
Now for something completely different. Great job on the continuance of the piece . . . at least I'm pretty sure that's more than what I sent off to you . . . Onward . . .
Diane, thank you for the great envelope full of beautiful painted papers....and, your daughters note is just too precious...I loved the story behind it at the "Tang" Stand.
ohhhh! I am so glad you enjoy my pictorial sillinesses but do not be miserable for not responding/posting stuff quickly. I have still your last super painted papers to make something of; I am always behind; it is a Mail Art Endemic Reality Issue (MAERI), I have given up apologizing. Soon now I will attack the font, I need luck there. May be ready for Xmas.
Now seriously I share your worries about DVS, let's hope he has not been abducted by aliens and that he resurfaces soon, pockets full of trash to trashpogrify. Please if somebody has any news post them quickly!
( i do not know why I am here shouldn't I be in the Trashpo group?)
Diane! I am working on fashion knowledge. Let's say I've always had my own 'style' and am blissfully ignorant of trends... I do have a hipster son and a fashionista hippyish chick 20 year old daughter who I'm in conversation with... Soon!
DK!!!! SOOO GOOD to hear from you!!! Yes our birthday week is upon us!!!! Hang in there when things get weird- you being of light!!!! Thanks for the B-Day mail art, warmed the cockles of my heart!LOve the no lard collage, revolution kitty stickers B-day-Card, ETC.
01.12.14 Dare Ms. Diane K., Oh, please!!! Don't stop your Bad Mail Art Contest now....These things take time....Not that I would or even could participate...some of us only have bad egos to offer....Sin sincerely yours, Richard Cheney
