Christopher, this is a friendly welcome to The Eternal Network from a celestial mail artist coming from a heavenly corner of the faraway Universe called Republik van Patland. A perfect start here is mail-art exchange. I would like to be the other when you decide it’s the right time for you to start trading art. If it’s the case at the time your envelope should read as follows:
The Celestial Scribe Caixa Postal 24827 Curitiba-PR 80510-970 Brazil
II look forward to see your piece in my terrene mailbox. Yes! I will do my homework after receiving yours. This is nothing less than a celestial promise. I’m Patricio, Celestial Scribe & Envelope Provider.
Welcome to IUOMA, Christopher. If you have any questions or concerns about the way mail art exchanges work here, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. See you in the mail!--Bifidus
hello, christopher...glad to meet you here...i have an invitation for you...it's not too late, the exhibition will be latter...see the blog...greetings...
Greetings Christopher, thanks for your message, [and the compliment! %_^]. Welcome to IUOMA! I only joined in February, but it has enriched my life immensely, I must say. I would love to receive something from you, thanks! I will reply of course, eventually... I still have quite an IUOMA back-log...
Hiya, thanks for the add. Yes, I just joined today and I was looking through people's profiles and all the amazing art. I saw your website and your stuff id great, keep up the good work! :)
Hello Christopher - I received your brilliant little book today - what an eye and touch you have! Thank you so much, truly...And with the wondrous little glyphs stamp you posted in "Asemic Writing... !"
2 questions:
a: do you print your own stamps? If so, do you use pre-perf. paper, or a special scissor or puch for the edges?
b: dis you make or buy the "mail art" stamp? if you bought it, may I ask where?
The "first mail art" arrived safely to Republik van Patland. It goes straight to the Patlander Museum of Fine Arts. Mail artists like you have been able to capture and translate into postal related items society’s dreams, expectations and transformations which touch people’s sensibility and consequently the social tissue. I just received a tiny bit of this love story. The "Missent to Thailand" stamp is something to write mom about. Greetings form your first post.
Thanks for all the info Christopher - much appreciated!
Unfortunately, I lost the fine motor movement in my right hand [I'm right handed] about 20 years ago, so I'm afraid that might prove a tad dangerous for me... Would you consider making & selling me one? (I understand if it's your mark & you want to keep it for yourself only of course %_^)
btw, I'm sending you a - well, a sort of "place-holder" piece until I have time to do something more substantial... I've a tendency to work in a number of different aesthetic directions, is there any particular work you saw that interested you?
Exceedingly! Every time I try to hold something down my hand shakes, thus, I'm very slow now... "Patience is a virtue" I'm always reminding myself! %_^ A brain tumor operation - it grew misdiagnosed for 10 yrs., so when they finally found it, lots of nerves were bundled into it & had to be severed. [Too much info huh? %_^]
Oh, that would be great! How sweet of you! ^_^ I've been looking for a cool "Mail Art" stamp for a while... Thank you very much indeed!
Christopher, thank you very much for the stunning mail art. The little book is beautiful to touch and to hold and to look at, the asemic writing mysterious and eloquent. What a treasure! I'll send you something soon.
Oh Christopher, wonderful wonderful wonderful! Thank you so much! ^_^ Was working on a small gesture for you last night, to stem the tide, as it were... will post this week...
Ah, dearest Christopher, I received your stamp and charming/witty cards today - thank you so very, very much! I also received the return of the m.a. I sent to you a while back - I think it must have made it all the way to the UK, then been returned as it took long enough! Aaaanyway, putting a little package together for you presently in which I shall enclose it [post next day or two...I'm sooo slow...] Thanks again, with all my heart! ^_^
Bonjour Christopher! I've just worked out that you are 'letraset', and so M Letraset, many thabks indeed for the great piece that you sent me. At first, I thought it was from someone in the Arty Slides International Greoup -- if you don't know about this bit of IUOMA, and if you use 35 mm film a lot, you might want to join in. The piece that you sent me is really beautiful: thank you very much.
If, and when, I can tear myself away from the beach, I'll send you something back, but be warned that it won't be nearly as good as what you sent me.
Hi Christopher, your excellent m-a arived in NY (with some bumps from the dusty trail). Many thanks pardner - really wonderful. And generally - just totally impressed with what you are doing w/ Asemics. Hope you can be active in the Asemic Writing for Mail-Artists group here at Yo Ma; you provide a valuable perspective. You can see your m-a on the MinXus-Lynxus blog:
Hi Christopher, I'm glad the blog is OK with you. Scans don't really capture the excellence of the work.
Repair of that piece is fairly easy. I accented the damage because, yes, many mail-artists do view what happens to the work in the postal system as actually part of the composition, or the performance. Not everyone is into that, but I thought I'd emphasize it for those who are.
Well, I am hoping we will continue to exchange in the future so we'll both have opportunities to get intact work to each other.
I meant to add - I read this essay by someone who was studying mail-art in graduate school (snicker, snicker) that claimed if something was mailed in an envelope it was not real mail-art. The work you are mailing, whatever it is, must necessarily be exposed to the elements.
This was issued as a kind of proclamation or definition. And it's TOTALLY INACCURATE as far as I know. Maybe I misunderstood the Mail-Artologist. But Ray Johnson himself mailed the majority of his work in envelopes & of course envelope decoration is an integral part that most of us love.
So I've always wondered where that mail-art "rule" - technically issued by academe - came from. Yet there is a difference between mail-art and art that is mailed, I think. There could be a case for that.

I finally finished your package last night, and just wrote the letter - PO tomorrow! (Why does everything take me so much longer than expected...? Obsessive me and details details details...) So expect something soon...
Ah, dearest, Dearest Christopher - I received your utterly marvelous MA today - you remembered! - thank you so, so very much! Love the stamp issue too - your ideas always send me sir... thanks again! Best, C
I'm interested in exchanging some mail art with you, and see from the IUOMA artistamp group site and other sites that your interests extend to artistamps and book arts, overlapping with mine. I have been creating artistamps and mail art since the year 2000; book and pamphlet binding is a much more recent interest, say in the past five years, but I'm hooked. Just finished mailing a four-signature 60-page pamphlet to 59 participants of a mail art call with the theme "Keep the (U.S.) Post Office Public." (Whew, a month's worth of labor but fun...)
My address until February 1st:
Cascadia Artpost
4609 Briggs Drive SE, #304
Olympia, WA 98501-5515
We are in the process of purchasing a house (plenty of room for a studio!), and so I will be mailing out particulars closer to the time of relocation.
