I love to create things - but even more than that I like to share the things I make. I love the inspiration that comes from receiving art from others, and nothing beats the experience of holding actual art (as opposed to just looking at electronic images, say). I like having 'treats' to look forward to - and receiving mail art is a big treat for me. I get huge joy from imagining how my art is travelling, and how it will be received when it arrives. It makes me smile.

i sent you another card from a bigger district of İstanbul, i don't trust this post office anymore. So now there are two on the way to you, i hope one will get there . :) İ liked your idea to "volley" a card, maybe we can start with something simple and add content every time we send it back. Soon i will mail this big one.
Hello. Once you've read up on xaos and fractals you will probably know as much as I ever will about what these wonderful images are. I'm very much math-disabled so I can't be of any use in explaining what a fractal is, I just love the seeking and finding and the beautiful results. Sometimes it seems as if there must be a 'place' in the fractal bug where any kind of 2D symmetry can be found and that whatever is behind it all has rung the changes, has varied each idea in all possible ways.
Hi Petrolpetal, I got your amazingly clever and mind shaking piece of art, possible the most original work I ever received, full marks! Something will go over to you in a week or two from the United Queendom of Retailia, I am still catching up with the backlog.
Petropetal! I've just returned from San Francisco and a great weekend with other mail artists attending the Ex Postal Facto exposition. I met at least half a dozen correspondents face to face for the first time, including one from the Netherlands. I heard someone from South Africa was there, but never was able to meet the person. In coming weeks I hope to have some new mail art to send out. Best wishes, Jack @ Cascadia Artpost
Glad you liked it and thanks for the nice blog, it is fun and quite easy carving when having the right tools. I go for a soft eraser, it is those that are often the cheaper ones in the store, and I carve with a small, cirka 1mm thick, linoleum knife. BUT, MANY THANKS for the lovely full/empty envelope I received on friday, love the stamps on it and the pun with the content :)! Hope you get a lot of fun carving erasers... EH
İ am happy it has finally arrived ! Thanks for considerations, you are very kind. There is another one on the way and Tuesday i will launch the " volley card" . Have a nice and creative time ! :)
Thank you. I will send you something as soon as my new stamps arrive. I just got 25 postcards ready for the mail, many of them international, so now I have to wait for my next shipment of stamps to come.
Uh-oh, I can't remember what it was, but I think I sent you an old zentangle because some of your decorative elements seem zentangley. Oh, now I see I sent you a collage with some yellow fabric. Thank goodness for notes (-: We're having a warm sunny winter day so I dug up & moved a guava bush to a sunnier spot, quite a job! Hope allz well with you in South Africa, Lynne
Bonjour, Petrolpetal. Thanks very much for the Full/Empty envelope and card. When I opened it I had a full glass of wine on my desk, soon after it was empty. (In future , please can I haver a Full/Full envelope and card -- the wine will last longer). I'll be mailing you something back soon. Hope you are well, thanks again & regards, Val
Hi Petrolpetal--glad that my mail art arrived, although it seems to take about 4 weeks to get there. Regarding themes: a theme gives me a place to start. However, I don't stick rigidly to themes. Sometimes I react to what is sent, or feel moved by a piece of ephemera. Your pieces are very original and themes may not fit your style, but you can try it and see how it works for you.
What you're doing is nicer I shall send you off something tomorrow probably just a postcard pen and something kitsch but if I see anything for the Paddy Parade I'll send it on. This year Portumna are playing in the All Ireland Final Hurling it's a big sport here so they are probably doing to postpone the parade which is also a big thing. I'll definitely send you something tomorrow but i'll look out for stuff when the art season starts. Many thanks. It does cheer her to know she is not completely isolated, it all helps.
Tomorrow I am going to post her a short letter with some blank cards so she can reply to others also. She is a very simple and straightforward person. She has sent me paintings I think one of them is really beautiful I'll email you a copy. In terms of books she likes biographies of especially women, Phoolan Devi, Malala but also Nelson Mandela. But she also loved Wodehouse and The girl with the dragon tatoo trilogy. I sent her a copy of Gogol's dead souls which had prints by someone really famous but i cant remember his name very simple style. She loves flowers and birds. She has been in mainly solitary confinement since the age of 28 for the past 13 years and is remarkably sane for all that. She is very open has read the Hindu Classics Mahabharat, Ramayana, the Vedas, Upanishads, she really liked south Indian Bhakti poetry. Also Tagore and the Little Prince. She's tried to read the Bible and Quran as well as her own Sanamahi religious texts. She is a very simple ordinary down to earth woman and I am sure she would want to learn more about your experiences whatever fascinated you. I will try to look out for something just to send you for now as I am off to the post office tomorrow but I will look out for something more interesting once the festivals start here. Whatever you think. It will give her a little boost. I think I was one of the first people to write to her when I began nearly five years ago. I'm the only one who writes to her consistently. But anything you'd like. For someone in prison it's always nice to get mail. May you be happy.

The choice was very limited -- white or rosé.
I prefer red.
The quantity was very limited -- 2 bottles of rosé and one of white.
Ther art was OK though!
