I have been involved in Mail Art for eons, merely because I like to send my friends cool stuff.
There is a purpose for me being here. Mail art is a chance for me to make stuff to uncover what I might want to do, merely because I want to do it. I've been a commercial artist for so long, that I have forgotten what sort of art that I might make - only for myself. When you are an artist for hire, you do what you imagine the customer has indicated that will please them. I have allowed the environment, the purpose, the people - everything outside of myself - to determine what and why I make art for most of my life.
Now I don't have to do that. I can make whatever pleases me. This is a cool thing. However, since I have so little sense about what pleases me, I have found that it works for me to have a purpose.
So I have decided my purpose can be - to send art to you.

Fran: I read on your profile that you like to send cool stuff to your friends. What about those, like myself, who love receivng cool stuff as well, but you don´t even suspect they exist? Well, if sometime in the near future you decide to include the rest of the world on your "because I like..." list, I would love to be on the list. Your envelope then, should read as follows:
The Celestial Scribe
Caixa Postal, 24827

On reciving your cool stuff I will do my homework. Mine will be on its way to Kamuela. That´s a celestial promise. I´m Patricio - The Celestial Scribe
Thanks for your friendship, Franis - where's Kamuela by the way? I've been to Hawaii but only on Maui a couple of times. I absolutely adore the climate there - I feel healthy as a teenager when I'm in the islands. :D
Sounds like a great place to live! We thought about moving to Hawaii many times because I feel so healthy there (the climate suits me) but we are settled here in California (job and family wise) so we just visit from time to time. ;) Yes, it's a fun place, IUOMA - the best thing is the variety! So many people from so many different backgrounds and locations, styles and sensibilities. I love it.
I'm glad you got it already! I laminated the piece with Avery clear self-laminating sheet material. I really like that stuff, though it's not altogether cheap. I have always loved postcards and wanted mine to feel and look like professionally printed ones... or as close as I could get without becoming a commercial printer. ;) 3M also makes a good laminating sheet, even thicker, but Avery combines the best overall price with a satisfactory effect and ease of use (albeit a little tedious).
Here's an invitation to participate what will be the first art mail exhibition in Trinidad and Tobago.http://bit.ly/postalart-eng We kindly ask to tell your friends and we expect to here from you! :)
Yes, and thank you! I just got it (I don't get to my PO Box every day - more like once a week since I have my husband pick it up for me - he still works on the UC Berkeley campus so it's more convenient for him - I am retired now). I really like your postcard. :D
