Welcome to IUOMA, Julian!
Greetings to Chicago from Thessaloniki,Greece!

They may still be accepting contributions during the summer,
and there are several categories, competition and non-competition.
It is not Cannes...but it is on-the-waterfront. We have had some big names come here and there are great discussion sessions and master-classes, too. Hope to see you in Thess. one day!
Documentation for VSArts International Arts Festival about Disability is on www.vsarts.org VSArts is a major arts organization sponsored by the Kennedy family for artists with disabilities, and the exhibition is currently in the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, Smithsonian, Shakespeare Theatre, Union Station around Washington, DC for the week.
Hey Julian, you are learning yourself how to carve your own stamps? That is absolutely not difficult and easy to do. Use erasers as material to stamp with and very fine exaccto knifes to cut and there you go. Good luck with your experiments.

Hi Julian...thank you very much for the cool postcard!!
I posted it on my blog: http://tac-tictac.blogspot.com/
Something is on its way to your mailbox!
cheers!
Received your great color proof--love the blond hair, blue-eyed perspective of Jesus. I think he's a truck-driving hippie too and today he's sitting at the VFW outside of Cleveland recalling the days when a man could make a living at a tool-and-dye job, wondering when and where it all went to hell...
hola julian, received your mail art a couple weeks ago, thanks so much. i love your red devil man. awesome stamp, great work! i'm in the middle of a move (but my pobox) won't change) so i'm a bit behind with returning mail art... getting to it in the next couple weeks. it'll be good though i promise ;)
Hi Julian,
I mailed you a piece yesterday. I am not a hot weather person so I am getting a lot of art time. I don't work (I'm disabled) so I can "art" the day away. I hope that you're doing exactly what you want to do!
Thank you for your mail art, "Clockwork Cabalah." I'm on a Jeanette Winterson reading kick right now. She pushes time, space, and the metaphysical as well.
Peace,
mad madge
THANK YOU JULIAN FOR SUCH KIND WORDS. tHEY FEEL GOOD. I DON'T KNOW HOW ELSE TO EXPRESS IT. I WORKED HARD ON THAT PIECE AND KNEW IT WAS TO BE FOR YOU ALL ALONG SO I'M HAPPY THAT YOU LIKE IT. WE ALL DO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER....YOU'RE RIGHT!
Hey Julian,
For carving I use what I could find in the japanese stationery shop, sort of randomly but it works. It's very soft rubber, cuts like butter. I guess it's easier than lino but probably lasts less? I often deepen the carved out parts with a tooth pick and it crumbles easily. There are pros and cons I guess.

Hey, I wanted to thank you for the write-up about the latest piece I sent you. glad you like it--embarrassed to say it didn't take long at all to pull together. i'm at that place where most of my mail art is done on a subconscious level and I just stay out of my own way and enjoy the ride...
Hey - nice to meet you. Please would you mind looking at De Villo Sloans blog on The Crimson Giant and The Tower of Babel. He and Bifidus Jones said you would be a great addition to this collaborative work? The idea is that I will post you part one of the book, you create what you think is the next chapter, send me the original (or version thereof!) and I will send the next chapter etc etc. You can also post your part of the book to the other artists who are on your friends list. All that sounds a bit complicated - but its not!! PLEEZE say yes and I will post tomorrow - I am off to look up your movie x
I am SMITTEN - but understand. You are up for casual posting?? Will your movie get to South Africa do you think? Appeals to my post-apocalyptic nature - although my vision of the said event differs somewhat!.
so sorry you couldn't joinus at the Art Institute...
but you were with us in spirit! And thank you
for the great mail art...original! Found it in my
mail box as I returned to Greece.
Agapi,
Katerina
Julian! Fabulous Chicago Skyling card! (It arrived while I was on travel) I just love it. I am wondering what the lettering at the bottom spells out...
Yes, please and thank you. It would be an honor. I love horror movies. I hang out regularly with crime/mystery writers and you probably already know this, they are among the nicest, make-you-laugh-out-loud, stable people on the planet. I'm sure horror genre filmmakers are the same way. cheers
Watched your film last night--dynamite accomplishment, my friend. A zombie film from the point of view of the zombie who doesn't like his situation or even himself anymore than non-zombies do, yet he comprehends a paternal instinct for the infant--Future's hope in a virus infected society. The baby's constant crying, the perpetual walking of the couple, and the great musical score added to the post-apocalyptic feel. Three things that stood out for me: 1--as I already said, was the POV of the zombie, 2--it's B/W, and 3--despite the fact there is virtually no dialogue an amazing amount of communication occurs between the characters. Is The Defiled considered a horror film? My background is in literature so I'd used the term Dystopian from the standpoint that your film is a cautionary tale, warning us to change our ways or this will be the result--which of course, would be horrible. What I also appreciate about you as a filmmaker is the fact that you do not assume your audience is stupid. Many (U.S.) films insult me with the way they constantly toot the horn of their themes and messages, insecure that the audience "won't get them" otherwise. I appreciated your great and many poetic allegories, notions of failed government and religion, and your confidence in viewers. Thanks again, Julian. I only wish I had something comparable to send you.
How did I miss this section? How did I miss seeing all these wonderful notes and comments? What a fool. I feel so out of the loop. Thank you all for your gracious notes, comments and birthday well wishes. I shall be much more diligent with this Comment Wall area.
